Anyone using a Panasonic BT-LH80WP?

I just got a great deal on this monitor and wanted to know what people thought of it and how they are using it with their AF-100s. How are you powering it? Are there other options than anton bauer (since I don't have any of them)? Any recommendation on arms or mounts to the camera?

Anton Bauer is a convenient way, but not the only way. I got a $69 Bescor DC XLR power supply and a $119 Bescor battery belt. It's a big monitor though, and mounting it to the camera is going to be a challenge.

Thanks Barry... I think I will keep my manhattan lcd 5.6 inch for focusing on the camera and use this one for a client monitor instead of always lugging my 24 inch JVC. Is the monitor a good resource for color, is it accurate? My manhattan is close, but not good enough. By the way, how long does that Bescor last you?

It's a great monitor for color and accuracy, yes. It's a tad small for a client monitor. The battery belt -- it's a 12v 12wh belt, and because the power draw on the monitor is pretty low (18 watts I think) I think the belt delivers about 8 hours of runtime.

I've had one for about 4 years and love it. I usually mount I on a light stand, next to the camera. I find it very accurate, but small for the clients - I use a consumer LCD monitor for them using the hdmi. I power by a chinese AB knock-off I got off eBay. It was only $180, and still powers the monitor after all these years for 6-7 hours straight.

I love my monitor and have used it as a client monitor but primarily it is my focus monitor. It is heavy with my v mount Sony batteries and sucks up the power like running water. I will be using my Red batteries for my next shoot to get more life but the Red batteries are even heavier!!! A light stand is a good option to keep the load to a minimum.

So many useful tools with this monitor as well, 1 for 1 pixel, focus in red and wave.

So I received the monitor and it's in perfect shape. The hour meter actually reads 0 hrs. The problem is I can't use it... The SDI option was not installed even though the seller told me it was. Also there was no power cord. It powers up fine and I think it is basically brand new, not a mark on it, even on the anton bauer plate. But I guess I have to sell it. Does anyone have any suggestions on what a fair price would be for this?

Yes I believe it was a few years back. I happened to get one that was left over in a broadcast supply shop that was never used but didn't have the original box.

Big and heavy, but what a picture. Had mine updated to SDI about 6 months ago with a board from creativevideo in the UK.
Shot with it again last night.

I just trust the picture. Plus it has 1to1 pixels, blue gun, blah.

And as a one-man-band setup, with the Zacuto EVF for me, it becomes my client monitor in the field.

Can't see myself getting rid of it really.

electricpig - I have one here I was going to sell that I never had the board installed on. Now thinking if I can grab the board myself and do it for reasonable price I may do it rather than trash it. How much did you pay for the board and from where? In aus they are very rare and dealers mark up the prices horrendously. Or if anyone else knows, Id be greatful.

creativevideo no longer have one, a BT-YA80G, but a quick search here turns up this:

http://www.libraprobroadcast.co.uk/proddetail.asp?prod=BT-YA80G

that's about £100 more than I paid for mine. Guess they're getting thin on the ground.
Breathed life back into a piece of kit I thought I'd bought for keeps, but then just gathered dust when I swapped my HVX200's for an AF100.

Just looking at the rushes of what I shot last night, and it's exactly what I saw on that monitor. This camera pops for me.

Thing is, it's the same price for the board as for a 'modern' smaller onboard.
And the board is extremely user replaceable.
Just need to take an 8-or-so screw panel off the back, and fit stuff with the help of very engineery-step-by-step instructions.

voila, SDI

Panasonic stopped selling the SDI upgrade board a couple years ago because they had made SDI standard on the monitor. So to find the upgrade board you have to find a shop that still has one sitting in inventory. Could be tough to find. If you find it, its a snap to install. It is heavy, especially with a big brick on it, but it is accurate.

I know someone in the UK had one for sale without the SDI, and it has been up for sale for quite awhile. It was for sale here and its still up on reduser.

Hi 811.

Our BT-LH80 just went belly-up a couple weeks ago, and Panny repair estimates over $2K to replace the LCD (the unit powers, but no image - just died between shoots). All that to say, when it comes back from Panasonic (unrepaired), the field-installable SDI module will be available. Any interest?
