Anyone using a LILLIPUT monitor with the AF100?

Hello,

I wish I could afford the smalldp monitor but it is just too expensive.

The LILLIPUT 7" at:

http://www.coollcd.com/new-lilliput...r-w-hdmi-component-2-years-warranty_p721.html

Seems pretty good and I already own the Sony Batteries it uses for my Comer Light. :)

Anyone have any experience with this type of monitor? I realize it won't have the features of the smalldp but for ~$235 with 11" arm, sun hood and battery adapter it sounds like a great deal.

Any one have any experience with Lilliput?

Also what is the difference between a LED and LCD monitor?

I noticed the 10" is a LED monitor at:

thanks,

Simon

Heard a fair amount of positive things about it. For the price I would just go for it if you cannot afford a TVlogic or SmallHD monitor.

I understand the point about it being ALMOST too low.

I saw another thread on the HMC-150 section that people were happy with the results.

They even have a $20 discount this month if your purchase is $200 or more.

It is tempting.

Thanks for the input.

I started the HMC thread. Had the 7" model for over a year and happy with it. I can see how the 10" version would be about the same price. The components probably run the same unit cost. I paid $250 or so for a 32" for a bedroom HDTV over a year ago.

Good to hear. I am wondering if I should go for the 7" or 10". I have a feeling the 10" might be too big for the little af100. ;)

I think I will have to get the 7". Just too good of a deal.

I've used an 8" Lilliput with a 5DII, 7D, BluRay player, WDTV, and probably some other stuff. Great display for the money. I haven't plugged the AF100 into it, but can't foresee any reason it'd be a poor match.

I ordered the 7" version while I was waiting for the AF100. I figured for $167 what the heck. The most impressive thing about this monitor was it only took 3 days to get from mainland China to my front door in the USA.
Otherwise it's so-so.

All the Best!

Can I ask which model?

Thanks for the honesty. I realize the smalldp or other more expensive ones are better but if it helps framing and for indicam use, I think it is worth the $$. I hope. ;)

Which model did you have? There are various 7" ones?

Simon

It is the Lilliput 669HB 7" model. If you need an on-camera and this is all you can afford then by all means.
But in my opinion it's not all that.

Lilliputs a great little monitor, I have a couple of them. They recently came out with a super bright model with hdmi, and component in. Put it this way, I had a two Ikans break within six monthes, And have not an issue with lilliput. The seller is also reputable, I bought from them several times.

Cool. I am sold. ;) I am assuming I need the 11" since the Af100 is a little bigger than a Canon 5D which they normally show the arm on. Any opinions?

thanks again for another good reference regarding Lilliputs.

One last question, 7" arm or 11" for the monitor with the af100?

thanks,

Simon

That's an entirely personal preference, based on a lot of things including how the rig is set up, which arm, what the arm is attached to (a question of torque), how you're shooting, etc. I think I have a 9" Noga, and while building a funky rig for a 5DII, have at one point wished that it were a little longer.

I see your point. Thanks for all your help. You were very helpful today.

Take care,

There is nothing wrong with the 669HB monitor. Sure, its not like SmallHD or $1200 Marshall, or TVLogic. For the price, less than $200 - Awesome! You can't compare those monitors to these Lilliput monitors. I would start out with this - then as you progress (making money for gigs) than sell it and upgrade to those Professional monitors or keep it as a back-up. Monitors do go haywire.

If you buy one, buy one from CoolLCD from Hong. Two year warranty. Fast shipping from China like 3-4 days. Wow!!!

Battery packs, Gary P is selling them for your 5D MKII, 7D, 60D cameras - those LP-E6 batteries. 2 + hours. Simple, swapping them is a breeze. He has a bracket that is made specially for the 669HB. Less than $40 bucks.

I forgot he sells Generic Canon batteries too and other stuff if you need that.
