Hi. I beleve ATOMOS have released a D-TAP lead to power their Samurai from, but I live in the UK and haven't seen one as yet. I am finding that I'm whizzing through the two batteries that come with it far too quickly. Any Samurai users out there managed to get on yet? Thanks, Sparky

Havent seen anything from Atomos or my dealer yet regarding the D-Tap adapter. I did purchase a couple of the medium sized Sony batts and found that just one of them will power the Samarai for a whole day.

I recall reading that once you order and have your Samurai, you register the unit, request the cable and they send one to you for free. Going on memory from a few months ago so I may be incorrect.

I have a couple of the cables from SmallHD with a Anton Bauer style connector on it. They work but the cable wiring is thin and not up to the standard of cables that most use in production. Mine haven't failed but they do not give you tremendous confidence for the long term. For an outboard recorder I would plunk down the dough and get a proper cable made but someone who does it for a living.

They advertise a free D-Tap to battery slot cable when you register, but I haven't rec'd one yet.

I've used other, larger batteries, and they work but mine don't lock in as well as the ones that come with the unit. With narrative shooting, and turning the unit off for lunch and longer breaks the two stock batteries usually last all day. The great thing is my LCD lights have four big generic Sony style batteries that work. I always have a back up.

That is really bad form if ATOMOS is not shipping out these cables upon registration. Lots of people and productions do not want to mess around with 7 volt power and have more batteries to recharge. Anton Bauer and V-lock batts are the standard. With the complexity of camera packages and things like Steadicam setups, if they offer up an AB style cable, they should ship them out.

EDIT:

If the Samurai doesn't have a power jack on the back of the unit I will get a Lemo 2 pin installed and then get a couple of P-Tap (D-Tap) to Lemo power cables made.

Do you think recording with the 'monitor' off option would help save a little juice on the batteries?
