Anyone using 7D and Gh2 together? and... what's max record time on GH2?

I've been shooting 7d/5d for the last year, and I'm in dire need of a camera that I can lock off for longer shots ( performaces/music) the 12 min file length can be a problem. So I would relegate the 7d to the b cam "arty" shots with the GH2 ( or? ) getting the locked off wide shot/interviews.

Also, is the GH2 audio useable, if fed with a pro microphone? is it manual gain? if so, it would definitely be my run and gun interview camera.

An someone advise? and offer any caveats that may come with the Panasonic?

btw: editing FCP pro ress 422.

thanks!

The GH2 is significantly sharper than the Canon's, but otherwise they all can be graded to look alike if you know what you're doing.

Maybe you could just throw some blur on the GH2 to make it look more Canon-y for intercutting. Can't help you with the audio question, sorry...

The only limit on recording length on the GH2 is:

A) battery life
B) Card size

There is no artificial limit or overheating issues.

Useable is subjective; some are fine with it and some run an external recorder. There are 4 volume levels all with AGC (see here for details: http://k9soundtech.blogspot.com/2011/01/gh2-is-agc.html) and you can see levels on the LCD. One issue is the small 2.5mm mic input connector as it needs a 3.5 -> 2.5 in most setups, which becomes a weak point in the sound system (ie unplugged).

Do a search on vimeo for tests of the new Rode Pro Mic it's got a gain feature that let's you crank your input on the camera way down, resulting in really clean sound. It's pretty amazing.
