Anyone used this Cavision shoulder mount with the HVX + M2?

Hey everyone,

I'm going to be shooting a HVX+M2 short film pretty soon that has a lot of handheld so I'm looking to buy a shoulder mount. Has anyone used this one from Cavision? I'm not sure if I think it looks great or awful... but basically I just need to know if it's good for the amount it's selling for and if it feels alright with an M2 slapped onto it. I can't really afford the $300+ shoulder mounts out there :\ have too many other things I have to drop my cash into.

Thanks,
Giles

I haven't tried the RS-1580D-S but I have one that is fairly similar, the RS-1580D-DP. Haven't used the M2, but with the camera pushed all the way back, its rods should be enough to accommodate it. Might not be enough left for a mattebox so if this is something you want to use, confirm that the total length is adequate.

Better lift weights. I have one and bought a Stasis as well. Much better balance on the Stasis with the brick off the back.

I have this setup and recently discovered that you can balance it by putting the cavision shoulder mount between the HVX and th M2. I used to shoot a lot of shoulder-mounted betacam and when I put this setup on it felt very comfortable. This setup also means you would have to use an on-camera monitor, but I would guess this is already in (or planned for) your arsenal. You can have the rods forward a bit so you can accommodate a follow focus and matte box as well. I would suggest two things: get the handle extenders for a wider, more balanced grip; and pick the unit up by the camera, not the hand grips as they might slip under the weight.
