Anyone used one of these HighKey / Giant Softboxes?

At $200 for something that large, I'd imagine it might not be built all that well. Also I don't see any mention of how much heat it can handle. I've never used it so I can't definitively say it's no good, but these are things to keep in mind, and I can't really see myself using it as a soft box except in rare situations that require an enormously soft real tungsten light in a very limited space.

My response from the other thread: For slightly less money I've seen people use the Westcott 7' umbrella, silver with a diffuser - it is slightly larger because it's 7' all around, instead of 7' x 5' rectangle, but it is a bit deeper, obviously; the umbrella also breaks down slimmer, I think than the softbox, but you do need to supply a stand, which on the other hand allows you more flexibility with how high you want to go:

Man, I can think of a hundred uses for this thing!
And yeah, it's just a frame with a light grid - but at $200 that's about what I spent the last time I built something like this and that was kind of a pain in the ass, and it didn't look nearly as good and it didn't have wheels.

For $200, that looks like a great deal actually. We've all spent more than $200 on much smaller LED's. I love soft lighting, so I'd be interested, except it's still not available on amazon.ca or ebay.ca.

At $200 durability i sprobbaly a big issue.

BTW it's a big difference between bouncing the light and diffusing the light. With the first you loos 2/3 of lights intensity with the other about 1/3 to 1/2.

I would only use LED or CFL. I like the idea because I need an infinite white background for one project... in a small room. Hard to get a roll of paper hung and lights far enough away... then talent far from that and then more space for the camera. PLUSE I can also use this as a giant softbox for group shots. At $200 it is almost the same cost as a roll of paper and good stand and probably easier to carry (no long tube). Umbrellas work for soft box - but not as an infinite white. I was hoping someone else would be the tester, but I guess I might just have to go for it.

Well, if we're looking for large octagonal softboxes, there's this 7' softbox, strobe/fluorescent/LED used for $299:

Impact Luxbanx Duo Large Octagonal Softbox (84")

This is actually bigger 7'x7' than the Fotodiox 7'x5', and can put out plenty of light because it's compatible with the branded Hot Lights of up to 2000W. But it's not as flat, obviously, and it doesn't come with any stand.
