FS7: Anyone used Canon TS-E lenses on FS7 with Speedbooster

Hi all,

the title says it all. Did any of you ever used a Canon TS-E (especially the 17 and 24) on an E mount camera with a metabones speedbooster? Do the optics of the speedbooster somehow affect the shifting capabilities of the TS-E lenses? I guess the should work fine with a non speedbooster adpter, but I am especcially interested in feedback of users who used those lenses with a speedbooster.

Thanks for any advice!

I am interested myself as i am developing a project where 17 and 24 would be really nice for a correct perspective on the mountains.

I own the 45 TS-E and with the Speedbooster it will just not focus. The focus ring does not get far enough back for the lens to reach proper sharp focus on FS7 with Speedbooster. Works fine with just Metabones Adapter. And it looks great on my a7s II with adapter. But that means without the Speedbooster on the FS7 the lens will be heavily cropped and too narrow for my need on this project.

I don't own those lenses but I'm very surprised that that it wouldn't focus. The speed booster has a back focus adjustment. Have you tried it?

My other lenses work great on the SB, and i dont really need the 45 so no. I dont want to screw and fiddle with the element :)

I guess the reason this occur on just this lens, is that all the other lenses focus past infity focus. But the 45 stops dead on. So even though the other lenses shoot past the normal infinity, you dont really notice because you just turn the focus ring a little more and its still there. But theres a physical stopper on the infinity focus on 45 TS-E. Cant overshoot it.

Re fiddling with the back focus on the speed booster.
1 - Its just a screw setting so you can set it back if there's any problem on the other lenses.

2- If your lenses are collimated correctly then there should be an accurate setting for the speed booster that works with all of them . We tend to get very lazy about back focus when working with prime lenses because unless its so far off that you can't achieve infinity then the lens will continue to work fine if the back focus is out of spec - it might only throw the focus marks out a bit. There's a lot of slop in there. With parfocal zoom lenses of course its critical to maintaining focus through the zoom range. Hence since I don't have any parfocal zooms that use the speed booster I've never bothered to check mine carefully. In fact I'm not even sure how since my canon DSLR zooms aren't parfocal anyway. However if one is having a problem achieving infinity by all means get in there and see if a back focus adjustment does the trick . Chances are it will only make the other lenses have more accurate focus marks. There's nothing to be afraid of. Mark your original position before adjusting always.

3 - As far as I know there's no reason why speed booster shouldn't work the same on any lens. I could be wrong of course.

Ive checked speedbooster vs normal adapter that focus is spot on in the entire range of my main lens and it is, on both. Speedbooster did minimal, if any, impact on sharpness over the entire range. Its not a parfocal lens, but pretty close. The Canon 24-105 i had was horrible in that regard...

If its not broken, dont fix it.

I've used the FS7 with Metabones SB and the Canon TS-E 24mm lens. Worked as I expected. I use a variable ND filter so I can go to max aperture, which helps achieve a shallower DOF. I wish I had a good sample clip available, but there's this one scene I shot that I posted on Vimeo a while ago.
