Anyone use this steady system?

Re: Anyone use this steady system?

if you're looking at that, get a 30$ monopod from Bestbuy. It is Sunpak, and has a small clip that fits in the bottom tha tyou can rest on your pants or belt. Same stabilization idea for alot less..

Re: Anyone use this steady system?

Too much strain on you neck, it pressed on your ribs, every breath moves the camera.

I would rather go for the Varizoom JuniorRig. spring loaded support and a good tilt/dutch head are part of the deal.

Re: Anyone use this steady system?

I'll think about the glidecam...

As for Jr Rig... I haven't seen too much user feedback on it. Mostly people are using the DVRP. Man this sucks... that extra $250 can get me a new harddrive! lol. Ahhh the decisions

Re: Anyone use this steady system?

Seems like a lot of money to through away for something that seems to do what you can but together yourself. Shop around for other solutions that will give you more bang for your hard earned dollars. Add just a little more and you could get something that will be worth while getting.  :) I picked up a book from Codee Degan on how to build a steadicam rig and believe me it is the bomb. I've made modifications but I got the general idea and I'm pleased on how it's comming out. I spend less then $100 on material and I'm sure if you dig deep within yourself you can build one as well. ;D

Re: Anyone use this steady system?

It admittedly doesn't present a professional appearance, but a tripod with legs folded in, grasped around its center shaft, makes for a free-of-additional-charge stabilizer, and can give worthwhile results if you practice at it...

Re: Anyone use this steady system?

Hey
No I didnt make the sled for it. I made the weight 8 pounds instead of 3 though, it gave me better control.

Re: Anyone use this steady system?

O.K.! I am going to try and rig up that Poor-Mans Steady cam this weekend. I can definitely use it for personal use. But I am wondering what it would look like in a wedding atmosphere. I guess I'll know once it's built. Thanks for the feedback all.

Re: Anyone use this steady system?

As for the "poor-mans-steady-cam", keep in mind that more important than anything is getting your back and arms in the best shape of your life. It will strain you to say the least, but then again I'm getting old :'( I use a full stabilization rig and it still gets to my back.

As for whether or not it will work in a wedding atomosphere, you could always have somebody sew up a fabric tube or neoprene that would slide over the metal tubing to give it a better more polished look. If that's not enough tie a white bowtie on the top of the rig and enjoy.

Best of luck,

J.

Re: Anyone use this steady system?

Hey
Yeah the machine bolt fits the camera great. It is definitely a pain to carry. For weddings I think I might just use it at the reception and rest my arms everyonce in a while so I can grab some chow. Its like holding 13 pound bar bell out in front of you. But it does the trick for my budget. I might make some type of cover to cover up the weights at the bottom.
I like the white bowtie idea.

hey brian, i bought all the stuff today and all i need to do now is make the camera mount. but that picture, man it looks unstable... did you use a larger washer to stablize more?

or maybe get a shorter machine bolt? maybe instead of 1 1/2"
get 1/2"???

thanks brian for all your help. mane! :D

Re: Anyone use this steady system?

Hey
No I got the washes size that he recommends. You can try to go bigger or create something more stable. I made mine just like his.
