cool. are you using it on the aputure light? If so is there a huge light loss?I grabbed one - it works well, easy to set up & collapse.
I see they have one on their website: http://kamerar.com/collections/all-products/products/d-fuse-soft-box-gridDoes anyone know if they make a grid for them? These would be great for the lightstorms we have at work.
It might, but as you may know you have to be careful with not covering the vents of the 672 lights due to overheating so I personally would stick with the specific version for the Aputure. Thanks for the link. I am assuming they are pairing the middle size with the 672 light but I wonder if the large version would work? I would be great to increase the size of the light with the softbox.
Do you have the spot or wide?.. The 672 doesn't have a lot of punch once it's diffused, and it's so harsh you need to diffuse it. What I usually do is I bring everything up with a Lowel Tota and then highlight with the Aputure lights...Man, watch those vents...
I've got a 672 but doesn't seem like a good light for a softbox, very little kick to it. I find I use it for backgrounds, sometimes cheeckbones/hair as a hard light. But I like the popup idea, could be handy for walkaround doc-type work indoors.
I used this softbox to do some interviews in NYC for a Muhammad Ali doc I have been shooting for the past 18 months. It's good, works well with one of my 12x12 LED panels. But, IMHO, this softbox is still too small to use as a key source. I used it for a soft fill and it's great for that. Still using a larger 24x32 Small Chimera Quartz Pro for a key source. It's built well and the built-in little collapsible rods are cool, interesting engineering. I wish they made the same thing but in a bit larger size, like 24x24". The diffusion is pretty transparent you can still see the small bulbs on the panel a bit through the diffusion so it's not losing as much as output as the mostly opaque diffusion on the Chimera. Like every other tool in the tool box, it has it's place but it's not replacement for a Chimera or a larger scrim. Relative size of the diffused source versus subject is still what determines light softness and this is not that soft unless you are shooting tabletop and have the softbox near something tiny.
Hi, Nate. Which "omni-directional" version are you referring to?
No, especially with the Aputure 672 -- there's precious little light to lose to begin with :/They call it the D-FUSE WHITE SOFTBOX. It has the white diffusion on the sides as well as the usual front. Not sure how useful it would be, though.
