Anyone use Britek Lighting?

Ahhh, the old Britek gear. My light stands have all broken at the mount, and the lights just don't work anymore. I started buying Lowell gear, and none have failed. That isn't necessarily a recommendation of Lowell (I don't use them much and accessories aren't cheap), but a cautionary message. Certain things should just be bought once if you can help it (lights, lenses, sound gear), even if it means having to buy one item at a time.

We have a set at work. For the most part, they're fine. But the stands are pretty terrible. Buy at least one sandbag per stand if you decide to go that way. Also, the lights will give us a small flicker every 30 minutes or so. It gets irritating.

I have 2 of the softboxes. The second film related purchase I ever made. Been using them for 7 years. I hate them.... but, yet, I use them all the time....

They do their job, they make light.

First one I ever bought years and years ago was solid, and a steal for the money. A little 250watt open faced light that worked like a champ (I wish I still had it).
Then about 3 or 4 years ago I bought some more of them and they were all pretty much worthless.
Yes, they made light - but two of them also made smoke and melted the housing.

Unless they've worked out their quality control issues (which I doubt), I will never buy them again.
If they are all you can afford just know you're gambling - and I would highly recommend testing them all out in a safe area first before taking them out on set.

The can work, but I'll tell you this - Briteks are the only lights I've ever used where I felt the need to take backup lighting fixtures with me to a shoot.

The four I bought seven years ago are still going strong with zero problems. I wish they still made them like that.
