Anyone us Sheer Codec to CC DVCPRO-HD?

I've been playing with it.
a 363 meg dvcpro hd 720 mov exported to Sheer selfcontained is around 883 megs, but the apple selfcontained 720 is only around 370 megs? I'm not sure the benefit of sheer? (other than cross platform).
Am I missing something?

In any case..the sheer file plays perfect from the system drive...that surprised me.
320 meg DVCPRO-HD to 8bit uncompressed = 2.01 gigs
320 meg DVCPRO-HD to 8 bit Sheer = 800 megs.

Sometimes FCP doesnt like the sequence setting in sheer.

But wow.....so far I'm impressed!

For CC and grading....Sheer may be the way I go.

then export sequence to compressor for mpeg 2.

Can someone explain why I would use sheer? I can understand if going from mac to PC, but why else? If I want to cc hvx footage, why would I go to sheer (a transcode) and then back to DVCPRo HD for layoff (another transcode)?

I don't see the benefit after all of that transcoding, why wouldn't I render an uncompressed sequence, cc in that, and then layoff that same uncompressed sequence?

To CC DVCPRO HD, importing into a Sheer Sequence is uncompressed, but at about 60% the size of the FCP Uncompressed setting. Then CC and export out from that sequence. I did this and exported into compressor.

The only thing I'm unsure of is how good the codec plays out from a decklink SDI output.

Graeme??

I see, so instead of rendering to uncompressed, you render to sheer, but you get no r/t according to BitJazz. They tell you to send feedback to the FCP team and ask for r/t to be enabled for third party codecs. They do say that it is possible to edit, import, capture, playback, cut, and export in FCP using the Sheer Codec. You just get no r/t effects. Thanks for the post.
