the hyperdeck shuttle sure looks like an interesting option.

solid state like a P2 card
significantly cheaper than P2 cards (the device and a pair of 60gig ssd units is barely more than a hundred bucks more than a single 64gig p2 card)
solid hd sdi connection
uncompressed 10bit recording

about the only drawback i can see is the INTERNAL rechargeable battery, so you might need two $350 base units to get though a day worry-free

anyone have thoughts or first hand experiences?

so. you likee?

any visible quality improvement?
audio work ok? (ive never worked with audio sent over sdi)

I use it on my AF-100 and love it. Yes definitely improved quality.

Huge files.

Audio is fine.

You'll have 8 tracks of audio for each video file.

i know you didnt sign up for a tech inquisition here. but when you say "huge files" im wondering if the hugeness is huge enough to break down the value component relative to p2 cards

Well, consider that a 60GB SSD will get you maybe six minutes of recording time. P2 cards will get you 10x that, albeit with compression. So if you want to record an hour, you'd need a 600GB SSD.

Yeah, don't let the price of the Hyperdeck fool you...the cost of the media kills any value it provides. I'd rather go for a Ninja + SATA hard drive, but I guess everyone has their own different needs.
