Anyone tried a Fujinon A13X6.3BERM on the 500?

I have the HA 13x6.3 BERM. I think it's the same one you mention, but from the HD line of lenses.

I really like it. It's not a true super duper wide, but it does great for interior run and gun shooting, and also has a nice telephoto range, especially with the 2x. This is partly why I chose this lens--- If I was going to spend 20k on one lens, I wanted it to at least cover the wide and telephoto ends of thing reasonably well. I didn't have the cash for a standard AND a wide (and find it cumbersome to switch lenses in the field for the kind of work we do), so I went with this lens.

Only drawback I can see is that it is HEAVY. It's a really big lens, and makes the 500 a very heavy camera, especially with a Hytron 140 on the back.

The picture is great, very nice contrast, great resolution and very minimal barrel distortion. Does not breathe very much either. Also has a really cool programmable zoom feature for nailing complex zoom-out/in shots.

Shoot me a PM if you want some more info, pics, etc.

Sounds like my lens with the program zoom and an H added. It's the H that's the big question.

Mine is on a D600 BetaCam and pictures look really great. As you mention, the doubler is very clean so the tele and wide combination covers a good range.

I'm pretty sure the HPX500, brick and lens combo would feel lighter than the D600 rig.

Anyone tried the non H version of this lens?

gstrother,

I am considering this same lens for my HPX and was wondering if you had ever gotten a chance to use this camera / lens combo and how it worked out. Thanks in advance.

I'm not 100% sure, but i think HA is broadcast series lens, A is lower series.
Myself, i have HA 22x7.8 lens, damn expensive, but same amazing, sharp, i love it.

No, they're both broadcast, but the HA is for HD, the A for SD.
Just how much difference the HA will make is hard to say, you'd have to try it, but Fujinon will certainly tell you that it's a very different lens with lots of new HD optics and designs. Theoretically the SD lens should look nowhere near as good as the HD one, and no manufacturer would recommend using an SD lens on one of their HD cameras, but in practice it's often pretty close, especially would high quality SD broadcast lenses.
You need to test it vs a known decent HD lens.
