Just wondering how standard def looks on the hvx200. I'm assuming it'll look better than on my JVC consumer camera.

Also, since you wouldn't be using P2, would you be able to capture and edit with FCP 5.0 and below?
 
When shooting in DV or DVCPRO 50 on the HVX, 24p looks good, 60i looks jagged. Editing in almost any version of FCP with Mini-DV is simple. If you shoot SD or HD on the P2, I am pretty sure you need at least 5.1.4 to ingest the MXF files.

I have shot loads of 1080 50i and 25p on my HVX and the results are simply stunning. However, just recently I have been working with clients who want DV footage and I have shot about 10 different projects all in DV on both tape and the P2 cards. I had one shoot where I had a problem (at first I thought it was with a bad batch of tapes) so I sent the camera away and Panasonic replaced the mechanism. I am now nervous about using tape in the HVX so I only shoot to P2.

I have to say that the DV footage looks great and my clients are happy with the quality of the shots. I have worked with all the formats over the years but since DV and DVCAM arrived my work has been mainly with those formats. I think the DV footage from the HVX is far superior to that of say, a PD150 or PD170. The colours from the HVX are richer and the images clearer. Oddly, I find focusing in DV mode much easier on the HVX than with the PDs.

One recent project was shot on DVCPRO 50 and that looked fantastic.

I will continue to shoot in DV mode while clients are asking for it (mortgage to pay) but it does seem such a shame when the camera can achieve the HD quality that it can. Maybe my clients will catch up soon.

I can't comment on what minimum version of FCP is required.

Personally I wouldnt shoot in SD mode even if a client asked for SD. I would shoot HD then output the SD from the timeline, ensuring I have the highest resolution possible to begin with. HD downconverted to SD IMO, does look superior. Output from FCP to back to tape after edit if needs be. That is unless your handing tapes over after shoot and they specifically ask for that tape to be in SD.
 
DV, in Squeeze, looks great on the DVX. Interlaced DV is not great, but still likely superior to a cheap consumer camera. 4:3 is not bad, but I feel the DVX does better in 4:3 than the HVX. Still, again, the HVX will likely be better than a cheap consumer cam even in 4:3
