anyone record directly from ex1 -> macbook pro?

i am looking for real world experiences

hassles?

which version of macbook pro did u use?

distance between laptop and camera?

(calling barry green: how long can a usb2 cable go?)

any noise from laptop intruding on the shoot?

did u use the internal macbook pro hard drive? was it 5400rpm or 7200rpm?

dropped frames on macbook hard drive?

has anyone shot from the ex1 to the macbook pro but use an external hard drive connected to the macbook pro to record the data?

dropped frames on the external hard drive?

any and all experiences would be very helpful.

be well

You mean live recording? You can't stream live footage out of the EX1 (except for HDV).

Or are you talking about using the EX1 as a card reader for already-shot footage?

15 feet.

You can only do this in HDV mode on an EX1, and then you'd be using firewire instead of USB. You *cannot* stream high-quality 35mbps mode on an EX1. In short, I don't think it'll do what you want.

barry-

thank u for sharing your thoughts

i did think that there was a live record feature to the ex1.

the last page of the sony ex1 brochure has workflow images and i thought one of those workflows included live record.

my mistake

again, thanks

be well

The camera has SDI out, so you could record that using a Blackmagic card. However, that wouldn't work with a laptop because it doesn't have a PCI-e slot.

thoff-

instead of a blackmagic card isn't there a portable device-maxtor mxo-which takes a sdi signal? would that allow a macbook pro to "live" record?

thanks in advance
