Anyone Planning of Doing a Super 16mm Film Comparison with the HVX?

I know the vast majority of members here have probably never shot 16mm film before but does anyone plan on doing a comparison of the 2 mediums?

Yes I know its almost like comparing apples & oranges but i'd be interested in seeing the results... esp for the slow motion stuff.

Smart.. alac. I've shot a lot of super 16.. and can already tell you that I don't think I will be shooting anymore 16 after shooting with the HVX. The look is so similar and so good that the cost and aggrevation of 16 just seems so antiquated now. I also love the immediacy of the P2 and also the ability to edit on the set. I think that this camera offers so much for the indy guy. The metadata would be invaluable for pickups and reshoots. Pretty much the three of us that had the HVX last week.. are all film guys.. and each of us at some point said... It looks so much like 16.. and that I don't think we'll be shooting 16 again.

Just my two cents. Would love to see a test, but I think I'm sold on this cam for so many many many reasons over 16... especially when combined with a nice matte box and 35mm adapter....

Rejoice at never having to deal with the lab again. Never having the AC open the mag with all of your day's footage on it.. to edge fog the whole thing. Never have the mag freak out and come spilling out or get all spiderwebbed up...

My old 16mm equipment is good and heavy though so it makes a great door stop.

although i'm only 25 & reasonably clued up on video & editing, I have shot a fair amount of 16mm with my Bolex in the past 3 years.

All of it being slow motion, shot at 64fps with a 10mm switar inside a water housing (i'm a surf filmer mostly & love slow-mo in fast situations) And it all looks so damm good when transferred properly (big $$$)

i know I know, its faster, easier & sometimes cheaper in the long run to shoot video but for my style of shooting 16mm is a great option, all the worlds top surf filmers shoot it (or 35mm) but the thing that has got us all interested in the HVX is it being the first afordable small sized cam with 50/60p...

But i'd still love to see the comparison of well shot using an experienced film DP shooting Super 16mm using good(not the best or rediculously expensive) optics compared to well shot HVX material...

Not to start a debate or tech bullpoo poo thread regarding film versus digital cos they're both good for their particular uses, i'd just love to see a comparison... (i'd do it myself as i have plenty of well shot 16mm but dont have any HVX's here in Australia yet!)

I will be shooting a spot campaing for a Golf Show in a couple of weeks an I will be using my HVX as the main camera but I will taking along my Eclair ACL for comparison purposes and maybe even test some intercutting. I'll be glad to post some footage when I'm done. I've never shot slow motion with the Eclair and I don't know if I can since I was told that it wasn't recommended because this camera is used for sync sound and running it that fast could ruin the mags and make them noisier and there is also an issue with the type of battery I have. As for me not ever shooting 16MM since I have the HVX I don't agree with that, I think that every project is different and I see the HVX as an additional tool. I'll use it more than the Eclair, but Film has a lot of merit and has plenty of useful life left, so I have a client that can afford it and the project lends itself to it, you bet I'll be shooting with the 30 year old Eclair.
