Anyone Like Horses?

I doubt there are too many people on this forum that are into horses, but since I had to spend an afternoon shooting my wife and the horse I thought I would share the pain.

I have to admit though, that as long as my wife is into horses she doesn’t mind how much money I spend on video equipment. I can probably spend another $100K before she might say something.

Long live Calvin! (the horse) :cheesy:

What will be film like "Return of The King" without horse scenes. I grew on a horses farm and it is a fabulous animal, only good childhood memories from that time.

Look like a nice place by the way.

Was there footage? Is that your place, because I'd like to book a holiday at your house - maybe you could put a package together?

God I love horses.

Don't know why, I just feel a kinship with them.

Your photos made me smile. Thanks.

those mountains are beautiful. I wish I lived somewhere like that.

Nice grabs... I've never even been on a horse.

Horses are amazing animals. Growing up I rode horses a lot, we’ve had this horse for 10 years and I’ve never ridden him. He’s 17.2 hands tall [my wife is just under 6ft and Calvin’s withers at the top of his shoulders and the beginning of his neck are almost 6ft], and weighs a little over 1800 pounds – he’s a big horse.

You can lie to a horse, call him ugly, tell him how wonderful he is – anything you want and they don’t care. They only respond to (I know this sounds corny) unconditional love. You have earn their respect not by what you say but what you do and if he doesn’t like what you do, well you’ve got an 1800 pound animal pissed off at you and he can do just about anything he wants and your not going to stop him.

But once you earn their trust they are amazing. They have strong personalities, Calvin is actually quite funny. He likes to play basketball. We deflate a basket ball and put a tub in the middle of the arena and then encourage him to put it in the bucket. He mostly runs around like a puppy but he has actually put the ball in the bucket a couple of times in ten years. I suspect he was thirsty and thought there was water in the bucket and the ball just ended up there.

Anyway, No Ca$h, if you ever get the chance to go riding I recommend it. Go to a barn and take a lesson, you’ll never forget it…

Overlandfilms, you’re more than welcome to hang out at our house, although there is no house there, that’s the barn. Sometimes I think the horse lives better than we do. I checked out your website a bit, I tried to view the trailer but the “watch the trailer here” link didn’t work. Great expedition images. I’m curious what you do, my brother-in-law runs a turtle preserve in Costa Rica and has another program in the Galapagos. He’s hinted around at wanting to do some videos but he doesn’t want to pay anything and he is my brother-in-law… :undecided

Beautiful! My wife would love to move in and share a stall in the barn! She was riding before she could walk and she says that is one heck of an impressive animal. Maybe you could shoot some footage of a workout and post it so we could see the fellow in motion... (hint, hint from my wife).

As much as I love to watch my wife with Calvin, getting me to the barn is akin to going to the dentist. But I’m happy to edit something together for your wife. Calvin is a Dutch warm blood and is a great jumper and has a fantastic trot. Unfortunately he can cover the arena in about 10 strides but he looks a little like a rocking horse. But for dressage or jumpers he rocks.

Gary, buy your niece a car! It won’t eat her out of house and home and her future boyfriend/husband will be indebted to you for the rest of his life. I don’t know what it is about women and horses, but once they get it in their blood it’s for life. There are times that I’m not sure that if my wife had to make a choice between me or the horse that I would win that choice… :undecided

Just kidding or course...........

ChuckS, what settings did you use? Was it default Scene 6 settings? Those images looked beautifully sharp.

I love horses too. Especially with ketchup!
