this would be an AWESOME format for LOTS of our commercial work, less compression then HD or DV and native WIDE..that will look swell on 99% of TV sets out, even look ok on HD set...

all in native 16x9??

that would KICK SOME BUTT..:)

I can't stand 4x3 or low res letterbox 16x9

seems in many ways this camera WILL KICK some major BU&%, other people may be expecting way to much...I like the GrassValley cam..looks like that would be our first "real" camera if they include 24p anyway.. the hvx will replace the dvx for a "I want to get creative, but the F*(*& client has $0.10 to spend on the budget type of work...and that is about 99% of everything we do...LOL ....arrggg:)

and then some people have NEVER made anything, but have lots and lots of CASH and go buy 2 VariCams and shoot a "film" on it...I need not say anymore about this "client" but I think you get the point...;)

So that means it shoots it anamorphically squeezed right? I am not sure if DVCpro works like DV or not.

All DV is anamorphically squeezed one way or the other. 4:3 DV is squeezed to fit into 720x480, and 16:9 DV is squeezed to fit into 720x480. (720x480 is mathematically 3:2).

The chip is shaped 16:9. No digital stretching goes on to make 16:9 footage. Not sure how it makes 4:3 though, that's probably just a center cut but it hasn't been explained yet.

I think the LCD is 4:3 ... or 3:2 like the DVX and it letterboxes for 16:9 (in the LCD display only). You can see the black bars at the top and bottom of the frame.

As I recall - from very old information - the big plus on this is that when you shoot 16:9 you actually have extra room in the LCD so that your dancing VU leds and Zoom and Focus feedback appear in the Letterboxed area and not over what you are shooting.

Yep the LCD itself is definitley 4:3 - and I'm sure that it would scale that way when shooting SD and "switched" to 4:3 mode.... but it would record in the center cut mode being 16:9 CCD's.

I guess the lines are if you are recording HD for HD & SD 4:3 distribution ie TV with both HD and SD broadcast.... most people still have standard TV sets...

(and the cute little icons for the P2's in the top of the display).
