Anyone know how to do this effect?

In order to pull off this channel offset effect there maybe some native filters in FCP that can do it if you play around with it but I've usually achieved this using 3rd party plugins from either BorisFX, Digieffects or Genarts. Their channel offset filters have more flexible.

You guys aren't thinking the obvious. Forget channel offset. Just apply a tint to each layer. The variables will be on how the second layer is added.

How so? I've actually tried this effect before and even tint with blend modes wouldn't do it. So I'm just curious how you pulled it off if u don't mind me asking

Boy, but that's a really annoying way to make a video.

You need to separate the color channels and apply a different scale operation to each one. You can do this in FCP with the Conduit plugin. You can probably do this in Motion by duplicating the footage in 3 layers, applying a different scale to each copy of the footage (not the containing layer) & copying a color channel from each layer to a 4th top layer.

At least you explained using either a 3rd party plugin or native filters in Motion. I would go the 3rd party route because of the flexibility but to each his own I guess
