ANyone interested in a $299 Follow Focus?

Oh, thisishells...CNC machining is computerized numerical controlled maching, which is computered controlled machinging; with a lathe or a multi-axis mill. This allows a program to be done one time, and used many times in the repeat manufacture of machine parts. It reduces the cost of having parts made. As to emaching.com, there are better sites, and if you need a good shop, I can inroduce you to the one I have used for 9 years. They're fair priced, they meet their dead-lines, and their quality is very high.

Wooohooow thisiswells what's going on?!
Man sorry but I'd think this was really an unnecessary angry yeah sorry kind of flame like posting... :-/

...happens all the time!! Or am I the only one who notices?

Anyway,

Focus This.....I think you should definitely make one and post some pictures or videos of it's functionality. We are all very interested to say the least. But in times past, we have been teased, but the products just never materialize. Maybe Redrock and yourself could team up and that might help speed things along. Either way....I think were all game.

Here ya go. Hope the shots are detailed or accurate enough for what you need. BTW - on the bottom shot. the threaded hole is the one on the far right. The one on the left is the registration pin hole to keep the tripod shoe from rotating.

ive done some serious work on developing an inexpensive FF and mattbox system.. completely retought out from the ground up to use standard system type accessories on the rail system and regular filters and such, but the design was somewhat revolutionary in the way it worked for ease of use, setup, and looks and such .. had them all ready to start production. and the local company dropped the ball on me. then i saw an immediate opportunity to put the cash towards another project , and i put the designs on hold. ..cant say i didnt try or wont try again, but even i was pretty upset that things didnt pan out for my own project. so, show us the money....

First off, thisiswells, sorry about the BS post...

Secondly, SIRIUS_DOGGY, THANK YOU!

Third, iamloser...I understand where you're at/been. Have made products in the past, even had one get marketted (an electronic stethoscope). There are so many sharks out there!

Finally, thisiswells, I have a couple of cameras...a Canon GL1, a Canon LX-100...had an Xl1 but sold it this past winter due to the taxman coming! (Wanted MORE! Hey Bush, I thought my taxes were going DOWN???) But they don't count in that they are not the standard type everyone is using. As for follow focus...well quite honestly I don't necessarily want to have what is A) already patented B) already available as I design; patent infringement, prior art, etc. I have used the JBK Cine Follow Focus and the miniFollow Focus (Chroziel?). Know what they do, have even hit a few decent marks with them. As iamloser stated, innovative designs are key. That is hard to maintain when you have one in front of you to "design off of".

I'll end with this...resevoir, your depth of perception is quite deep. I know what you mean about the teasing, or VAPORWARE in thisiswells post; me thinks I may have used that term once or twice myself ;) That's why I was only asking for two things basically; was anyone interested ( a market of 1 or 10 isn't enough) and could I get a set of dimensions.

Thanks all, with the info I'm back at it!
(I have vacation this week as my daughter's daycare is closed for the week. )

"I could use a little technical help...not of the R&D type, but of dimensions of camersa.
Specifically the DVX and the XL1/XL2.

I need two dimensions off of each, and considering how the cameras manf are, these dims are not posted.

Measuring from the threaded hole where the tripod plate mounts, what is the distance, in a straight line, to the focus ring? Next, what is the outside diameter of the focusing ring?"

Focus This!, if those are the only two dimensions that you need in order to build a FF, and you don't have either unit yourself....and you know you can sell them for $299.....hmm...

Save up your money guys, $900 will look like a deal.

Mr. Focus This!

Whether my earlier comments were appropriate in a public forum is questionable.
However, you saw them and made a rebuttal, which stands, and so will I.

I made the mistake of taking you seriously. From your first post:

"have a plan completed" "All aluminum, powder-coated, very pro..."

I sent you a PM earlier today (12:01PST) and would kindly ask that any further
correspondence from you directed to me be fulfilled using a private message.

Thanks.

Brian....so what *IS* the scoop on the MicroFocus? Is that being developed currently, or is it on the "to do list" for later on?? Just curious as to whether or not you guys were going to proceed with the mattebox and FF project. ??

~reservoir~

Yes, we are going to do both a microFollowFocus and microMatteBox. Same basic redrock principles: high quality product at indie prices. The current status is somewhere between your two options. Personally I am looking forward to a great follow focus that works with SLR lenses in addition to cinema lenses.

Focus This! Drop me a line at bvalente@redrockmicro.com and we can discuss how best we can help get something like this to everyone here. Maybe you would be amenable to some help with branding, or product naming? :)

We also intend to offer a complete line of other accessories such as a shoulder rig.

For now, we are focused on getting the micro35 out the door and into people's hands. We have an obligation to make that happen now. Our estimates are a fall release of one or more of these.

If you are interested in any of the above, we welcome any suggestions or feedback here or over at redrock.com/forum

Cheers

Brian

Looking for cheap CNC milling? Try your local polytechnical college. Ask around and find an instructor or senior student sympathetic to your plans. I used to build parts for rockets (REAL rockets) this way.

Thanks Brian. Maybe you guys can work something out. Having a Redrock Micro FF and Micro35 by the time the HVX drops will make alot of people on here VERY happy.

reservoir - we completely agree!

pmark23 - I am confused. You are saying you were building rockets at local colleges - as in military rockets?!

I wasn't in college, I was just using their stuff. I was barely in high-school at the time.

Their intended cargo was cats. We never got to launch a cat, because the rockets weren't reliable enough -- my mom would have killed me if I blew-up one of her cats!

I guess you could train the cats to scratch or spit or something when they landed, so yeah they could have been military rockets.

Our largest engine (not rocket, just the solid-fuel engine), was 1.5 metres tall, and about 30cm thick, and went a couple kilometres high (if it didn't explode on the way up.)

We started building a liquid-fuel rocket using kerosene and 70% peroxide, but then we discovered girls.

Ahhhh. The '80's. Couldn't do any of this today, especially in the paranoia that pervades the US.

Off topic (except that I did videotape or film (super-8) almost everything), but thanks for the trip down memory lane!
