ANyone interested in a $299 Follow Focus?

Focus This!

DVXuser Sponsor
Anyone interested in a $299 follow focus, 15mm rod enabled, with white disc for grease penciling marks?
Universal lens mount--no EXTRA hidden fees for the lens gear!

Just gauging interest...have a plan completed but am wondering if there is enough commercial interest to mass-produce these.

All aluminum, powder-coated, very pro...will post some pix if anyone is interested.

It's called the Focus This! (Would like the exclamation mark to be the middle finger; kinda like a thumb in the eye of the $995+ follow focus out there!)

Yep, I would definately be interested, and would get one for that price, quite possibly two - one for each camera ...

I suspect you would lose alot of sales using the middle finger as part of your logo. Not very professional at all.
It would sort of remind me of those mudflaps with the chrome women sillouettes....

I would deffinetly be interested. PLEASE post pictures. For a person like me, the middle finger would be awsome, but true, its a professional product and it should represent a professional image.

There's already the varizoom and others for the zoom ring. True, they aren't perfectly smooth, but it's cheap and effective. Plus, the only zooms worth using are crash zooms! (Well, it's a matter of opinion.)

Under a grand....not too bad I suppose. Isn't Century's like $1600 or something?

Seriously though....there have been quite a few people that have came and went in here that said they were going to make an affordable FF solution. The only peepz I know that are actually working on one is Redrock.......www.redrockmicro.com. Supposedly they are working on a FF and Mattebox solution in addition to their Micro35 Depth of Field Adaptor.

I think we all would welcome any additional products that saved us money.

yeah this better be real! If not, I'll give him the middle finger!

Okay, I'm selling a fairly used digital camera. I'm selling it cheap! asking price, only 3 easy payments of $29.95.

Here's a pic.

lol@bluespider...

but on topic - would be definately interested... i think the cheapest one so far is the one for about 800 bucks from cavision, right?! still too much imho ;)

I'll take the camera. But when I call to *Confirm* my order, are you going to try to upsell me overpriced tripods, filters, batteries, etc? I mean...I don't want no grey market stuff!! :)

I guess if he can put a jet engine in a Ford Focus, he should be able to build a follow focus control.

Somewhere beneath your sheltered enthusiasm lies the wisdom to register a domain
name for your product in advance. With that kind of foresight how could you go wrong?

Brian....so what *IS* the scoop on the MicroFocus? Is that being developed currently, or is it on the "to do list" for later on?? Just curious as to whether or not you guys were going to proceed with the mattebox and FF project. ??

Questions of dimensions...

Questions of dimensions...

I could use a little technical help...not of the R&D type, but of dimensions of camersa.
Specifically the DVX and the XL1/XL2.

I need two dimensions off of each, and considering how the cameras manf are, these dims are not posted.

Measuring from the threaded hole where the tripod plate mounts, what is the distance, in a straight line, to the focus ring? Next, what is the outside diameter of the focusing ring?

If anyone has these dimensions, please email me at nushuz1@juno.com.

As to how the project is going, I'll post some pix in the near future, BUT please bear in mind a couple of things:
I have another job/profession, NOT in this business, and am slightly busy with that in the near future.

There is a reason why these things are HIGH dollar, there is some fairly intricate engineering involved. At face value it's merely a right angle gear mechanism turning a geared arm that engages a gear assembly on the lens...until you have to factor mounting it to a some-what standard rail system, using how many different type of DV cams with how many differing lens diameters.

To make these at this price everything will need to be CNC machined...injection molds are way too much to justify on small runs...but as simplistic as possible.

I have used some DIY FF and when they work, they are AWESOME. How can you shoot without one? But inveritably they FAIL, and ALWAYS at the worst possible time, so quality/durability is low, and that's something that I won't tolerate.

Now, as a time-frame to production? By August 1...again if I could get a couple of people with a few different types of cameras that this will be used on to help with some measurements, initially, and beta-testing eventually, the process would be much speeded up!

I use a 3D CAD system, so I can design multiple iterations without going broke on the machining side. (Last night I designed, and scrapped 6 gear schemes, based on the function testing that 3D CAD offers...try that after paying a machine shop $50 an hour!)

Again, thanks to everyone that has posted...you given me the knowledge that if I build them, they will sell. (I own a farm two clicks from where that movie was filmed)

Brian, how are you guys at Redrock going with the FF? I don't want to crowd you guys...but if the development is on-hold, or back-logged because of your very full, and prospering, plate, maybe we can talk?
