Anyone install the new Ki Pro Mini 4.1 update yet?

I've been putting off installing the new update for the mini, I'm wondering has anyone else tried it yet? I'm interested in how the new time-lapse recording feature works, also glad to see they finally have Super out of the HDMI port and camera data for the F3 (even though it previously worked using the C300 setting)

I did installed it, but I haven't done any real test. I don't see any thing that really stands out about the new features. I was looking for vfr capture but i don't see it.

Thanks Douglas, the HDMI super out is what interest me most seeing as I can hopefully now connect the HDMI out of the KPM into my DP4 and confirm the Mini is actually rolling. I had some problems over the summer with DNxHD it was on two occasions, very hot day and some of the last files were corrupt. Sent the files into AJA but they couldn't figure out what was going on with the files. I've been using ProRes ever since even though I edit in Avid. The new interval function sounds interesting; I’ll load the new firmware in this afternoon and run some test.

I just wanted to clarify: the additional super out options were for the Ki Pro Rack product, not the Ki Pro Mini. Both products were referenced in the v4.1 press releases. The specific features added to the Ki Pro Mini can be found in the release notes for Ki Pro Mini:

One thing I've got say about AJA is that they don't wait for you to call them when you have a concern. I once posted a question in one forum about the KPM in the morning and in the afternoon I got a call from an AJA rep.

So, since Jon is monitoring this thread. Can the KPM handle vfr from the F3?

Douglas,
The Ki Pro Mini can extract frames from a larger "over-the-wire" signal if the camera supplies certain ancillary data. For example, on certain Panasonic cameras that output 720p 23.98 fps within the "over-the-wire" 720p 59.94 fps, the Ki Pro Mini can be configured to VFR to extract the 23.98 frames. On certain Canon cameras that output 1080p 23.98 fps within the "over-the-wire" 1080i 29.97 fps, configuring the Ki Pro Mini for the VFR record type would produce a 23.98 fps recording. To the best of my knowledge, the Sony PMW-F3 does not provide ancillary SDI data that could be used for this type of frame extraction.

Looking at Jon's posts make me wonder what would happen if someone from Sony jumped on a thread to clarify a question. Folks would fall over from the shock!
That's great customer service. Nicely done Mr. Thorn!

Hey Jon,
Can the Interval record work along side the recording of the camera at the same time, in the same Frames/time mode entered with the F3 with the record flag on? Or would that confuse Mini? Or does the Mini need to have camera data off and just use the record button manually on the Mini and letting the Mini do it's Interval job. Just by working with the signal it gets. Is there a way to both if needed, and record on camera by not affecting trigger mode and mess up the Mini's interval recordings by flags or TC. Thxs

Jason,
Interesting questions. Since we have a Sony PMW-F3 at AJA, I tried some of the questions you posed. The Sony PMW-F3 can be set to Camera Set>Interval Rec>Setting>On and the Ki Pro Mini can be set to CONFIG>9.0 Interval Record>On and the 13.1 Camera Data>Sony F3 and you appear to be able to operate/record with both simultaneously (yes, the camera data start/stop commands from the Sony PMW-F3 operates on the Ki Pro Mini as expected). I should say that I doubt that both the Sony PMW-F3 and the Ki Pro Mini are recording the exact same single frames within the second of the interval time (I'd need to do a more extensive test, but it seems improbable). You can also elect to not use the 13.1 Camera Data selection and simply use the record button on the Ki Pro Min to begin a recording; this means you can produce interval recordings (timelapse) from virtually any camera connected to Ki Pro Mini.

This sounds promising, glad to hear you now have an F3 in your shop, thanks for the information Jon.
