Anyone in Tokyo?

Are you in Tokyo at the moment? Are you Japanese? and.. what do you do?

If I'm lucky I might be in about 5 months! Applied for a film scholarship but the interviews arent for a while.
 
i've been trying to find a video related job in japan since i studied there 2 years ago. no dice just yet. got any ideas?!?

How is the film scene there? I hear its hard to get a working gig there?
Especially for editors/graphic artist like me.
Is it possible to work in film and not know japanese?

Virtually impossible. Unless you get to ride on some of the foreign productions that take place here, like the grudge etc. There is a small foreign market here, but the jobs are limited and competitive. i.e. go away :P

They key is to get to know as many people as you can, same everywhere in the world really, but thats a particular challenge in itself in Japan. But when you get here let me know. Also infokill what will you be doing here? and for how long?
 
Well knowing how hard it was going to be get a gig in the film industry, im going for the easy route of english teacher. I hae a degree and hear its the easiest thing to do.
Im actually going there without a working visa, and hoping i can get a job that will sponcer me before my 90 visitors visa is up. So my time is going to range anywhere from 3 months-longer (if i can get a sponcering job)
Om actually looking for sublet apartments as i type this. Harder than i thought lol.
 
im currently working as an english teacher in japan. In osaka rather than tokyo and its true that there isn't a lot of work to be had in the film/video scene. For now i'm working on my own with a few people i know and starting up a little side job doing promotional videos for clubs around the downtown area.

It's possible to shoot weddings and stuff but thats not my cup of tea as it were.

if you need any advice on teaching out here or whatever feel free to ask. I've been here a year now and will be here for at least 2 more.
 
ANY adive on what schools to apply for and the best way to job hunt would be great!:)

I have an Idea. You should tap into the military personel market. We have a lot of families there in Yokosuka, and Yokota. Just a thought.

Ohh havent checked this in awhile. Mat of course hanging around a lot a have a few freinds in Yokosuka and do get the odd gig. And fortunately my stuff is better than AFN :P

Seriously anyone reading this in Tokyo, I am hanging to do some collaborations. Ill help you, you help me stuff.
 
Well I live in Tokyo and I just bought myself a new XH-A1. :) Used to work in tv-commercial company in Tokyo but hated it, and now Im trying to start a business.
 
I am an American and would like to work in Japan. I find Japaneese girl is beatiful.

I am now living in Japan!
Looking for work now.
I actually live about 2 stops from yokosuka.
My stop is Zushi city.
I brought along my dvx-100, macbook pro, and d50 dslr.
