Anyone in LA know how to repair Sachtler DV8 heads?

So I bought this set off of ebay, a Sachtler DA 75 legs (no spreads) with a DV8 head. He sold it without the quick release plate which is fine, I bought a replacement off of B&H, but when I tried to put the QR plate in it wouldn't fit. Turns out there's something up with the front sliding portion pictured here:

When I pull the lever the sliding portion simply doesn't come out very far, not giving the QR plate enough room to squeeze in. I am not sure if it's a wear and tear issue but I was hoping someone here could give me some insight as to how much tweaking needs to be done. Thanks ahead

In return: I don't have much in the way of cash, but I do have an HVX and if you need help with a shoot we can talk details. I can also buy you lunch.

Hi:

You really should make the trip to Burbank and have Sachtler repair it. They just did a great job with my DV-6SB that was full of dirt.

Rick Low at Camera Dynamics in Burbank is the Sachtler service center for te West Coast (if you are on the west coast?) rick.low@vitecgroup.com

Randy Frisch handles the east coast I believe... randy.frisch@vitecgroup.com

You have a great head, I would not DIY it, take it to it's loving, factory authorized "parents" to get the repair done correctly.

I am assuming you are in the U.S.?

Indeed I am. I definetely don't want to resort to DIY as calling me a handyman would be like letting OJ teach anger management.

Thanks for the tip, I just hope the cost of repair would not make buying a new one more worthwhile

Well, Sachtler is top of the line gear so repairs are not cheap. But they are not exorbitant either. I think to disassemble my DV-6SB, clean out all of the dirt and grit, calibrate and realign and lubricate cost me about $200.00

Who knows what yours will cost? Call them up and describe the issue and I am sure they can give you a ballpark.
