Anyone in L.A. want to let me stay with them?

Once I get my career going and all, and make it to the point where I want, I'm gonna move to europe, America is becoming boring and dangerous.
Hell yeah. I've always planned on doing the same thing, it just might take me about 10years but I def. want to go there, I don't mind working with PAL :)

Lol, yeah, Europe is amazing. America is beautiful country, don't get me wrong, it's just becoming dull, and dangerous.

Yeah, It'll probably take me around that time too, then get to europe get a wife with an accent, and live there, lol.

Yeah, that is sort of the reason I wanted to move too, because it is dangerous and plus their seems to be no sort of cultural satisfaction for me here. That would be great, find a wife and make love to her everyday in the morning, afternoon and before bed. LOL :)

well
hmmmmmmmmm
so u don't have a job....you definitely need to have some money in your account to get by for the first two months, culver city
I guess would be the cheapest closest to the whole hollywierd thing. u don't need to get an apartment, maybe start by just renting a room somewhere $400, cheap car $1500, u can apply for internships at all channels to see what is like and network with people, I know LATV takes interns.
Inglewood is kinda quiet in some parts, the valley is hot as heck, I wouldn't move out there in a million years(no offense) downtown has some nice apartments, gated communities etc.
melrose= xpenssive, North hollywood is like $700 for a studio.
well good luck, how about London? you'll be closer to home.

Hey thanks Unix

I am wondering though, if I should just stop trying to buy equipment and save for apartment or room expenses? Like I have said a million and one times, I am a editor at heart and I am trying to get a job editing and I already have a powerbookG4, Tiger and Final Cut Studio, so should I just start saving for apartment and room expenses? It's a hard decision.

Hey Robert,
I hope in your plan you've got a little pile of cash saved up. 'Cause here's the deal when you hit LA, the only work you will find in post house's will be as an intern. An internship means they don't pay you squat for about 6 months. But if you're good, then at that point you may land a paying gig somewhere, or at least have your foot in the door at the place that gave you a chance (working for nothing that is). If you're crashing with friends they might let you slide on the rent long enough to get on your feet. You're also young enough and should have enough energy to find a second job. Good luck!

I'd save up for the apartment and room expenses. If you don't have much experience...there is a high chance that the pay might be pretty low..heck..some people even work for free for a month or so. If you've got a good chunk of savings in the bank, you won't have to stress about stuff like food and rent.

When you get your assistant editing gig, you might be working long hours at the post house anyways...and probably get to use their equipment for your own side projects if they're cool. Heck, you might even have access to cameras and all kinds of stuff.

In my opinion, the safety net of cash in your bank account is more important than investing in more equipment. Once you get a steady gig and a car, then start buying equipment. In the meantime...borrow.

Good points guys. I really don't mind working for free for 6 months because it all leads up to experience and a decent paying job. It's not so much the pay that I care about, it is the fact that I would be living my dream(of course a lot of you will say that I will eventually tire from it). But, I cant stand conventional jobs such as a second job like fast-food, retail(yuck!) and others. I'd rather spend my time working for free editing for a while than working a conventional job!!!!!!!

Also, would getting Final Cut Pro certified(by taking FCP certification tests) help out much for getting a job editing or would it just look pretty on my resume?

I just noticed your from France, man, don't leave France. Once I get my career going and all, and make it to the point where I want, I'm gonna move to europe, America is becoming boring and dangerous.
Yes I'm from southern France, near the famous Roman city of Nîmes, but i can't stay here anymore, I don't like France at all, people, government... I know it's not better somewhere else, but I can't stay here, I really have to go, everything and everyone get on my nerves here!!!!! There's no respect for other and i'm fed up of this! no respect for other and no respect for law too. I know in the US it must be the same as here, but I'm fed up of this fffffff... country LOL

it's just the same for us here, I mean you want to leave America and in Europe we want to leave Europe because America is a kind of Eldorado for us where you can find a job more easily than here. Look, here in France we have quite the same % of unemployment as in the US, Ok, but in France we are only 60 million inhabitants compared to you that you are about 300 million. and in France when you have a job, it's very hard to go upper on the social scale, I mean as for instance, I am a hostess at McDonald's and eveen though we're in France it just works as in the US: when you get into this job, you are at the foot of the scale and then you can go up to the top of it. and that's the way America looks like for us!

Yeah, I see what you mean. I'm sure it's much easier to find jobs in america, which is why I said once I get my career going I'm going to move to europe  Europe is amazing, germany I like the best, the weather is great, iceland, and all those countries.

I also have this sun condition, heat, if I'm in the heat for too long, or in the sun, I become burning red, and it burns my face quicky, only way to get rid of it is with coldness lol..yeah, I'm in the wrong place California..

OO shoot FilmMaker...come here to Boston you'll have plenty of that! What.. negative 27-15 degrees Fahrenheit last year...ummm yeah I’ll say if work and cold is what your looking for NYC and Boston is where it’s at. (with to turntables and a microphone  )

I remember when I visited LA last year…man…I learned real quick that Hollywood was not all that it's cracked up to be. I mean one street corner you have gorgeous homes, while just across the street on the other corners you had prostitutes making their runs. I remember one time I drove there from Arizona on the 10 and I was so tired. I saw a beautiful (what looked nice) sign that said "Macarthur park" so I thought I'd park my car to get just a couple hours of sleep. Good thing a friend of mine from LA had called me just in time to give me the low down on that place.

You got to watch yourself anywhere, but especially when you don’t know who you’re hanging with and where. It might be an easier transition if you’re originally from a city, most people from the suburbs, not all, are prone to get hurt.

it's the same here, in the south, it's hot all the time!

Lol, 95% of those prostitutes are undercover cops. The real Escorts mostly work at strip clubs and only get call in or out. Yeah hollywood is nothing like they say it is on TV, I advise you all don't move here lol.

I mean sure if you wanna blast on TV quick with your industry job, you've got a bigger chance here then most other places but I would never live here if I made it big, I'd move to a cooler country or state atleast, besides the weather the people here aren't very good even though I treat everyone like brothers and sisters, they'll take advantage of you.

PS: don't try a prostitute, they'll cuff you and take away your car, lol.

FilmMakerr, thanks for the tip. I've never been to jail and don't anticipate on going either LOL
Hook me up with the real ones

hahahaha, yeah, it's terrible how many people get cuffed daily because of those prostitutes.

Sometimes you get off with just a ticket and court of course, but I know you get your stuff confiscated, the car and whatever else is in there..sucks.

Then i've heard when they cuff you, the worst thing they do is call home and tell their wife, lol, that is torture there bad enough they got their car takin away, and sitting in a cell over night, but to call his wife.

That sucks! So that means that if I had all my equipment in there it would be taken away, goddamnit that sucks. Lights, laptop, camera ect... I wouldn't even go that route to begin with anyways. I gotta get out to and check those hot spots with you before I leave in 6-9months, maybe I'll take the bus up there:) Today I went in for my first videographer/editor position pre-interview and application filling. They want me to give them a list of all the projects I've edited, but I've only been editing school and a few nonschool projects :undecided I am also going to give them a demo reel(consisting of those projects) with the list of projects.

when you vist hollywood, take a stroll down santa monica blvd between fairfax and western on a fri/sat night, pretty hoppin...be sure to check out benitos tacos stand while your there.
