Anyone have interesting footage of timelapse

Re: Anyone have interesting footage of timelapse

nice timelapse ... I've yet to experiment with this feature on my dvx.

Re: Anyone have interesting footage of timelapse

That was awesome! I've never used the in camera time lapse function, I've always hooked the camera up to my laptop and used PPro to do it. How did you like it?

Re: Anyone have interesting footage of timelapse

Re: Anyone have interesting footage of timelapse

Those are very cool Rich. Especially that first one. I had the speakers turned up loud, and I was really close to the screen, when I started getting to the end of the clip I had a flashback to watching that damn car commercial and having the zombie pop up, I was half expecting it again.

I really like the timelapse from the off, especially when it turns to night. VERY cool. Very original.

Re: Anyone have interesting footage of timelapse

Thanks for the responses, that was my first time posting on DVXUSER and I was amazed by how quick this world is capable of seeing your work. I have been working with timelapse with rotting things, fruit, flowers, food, and so on. I also have a great shot of the golden gate bridge, I will post later when I get home. It really is an amazing feature!!

PS Thanks rich for the links nice stuff, And I agree with you about the timelapse concept, that it doesnt matter what camera you shot timelapse on it is just a wonderful byproduct of innovation!

Peace!

Re: Anyone have interesting footage of timelapse

You may have seen this already but I've got a couple of timelapses in the second part of my Water's Edge piece:

You will need the absolute latest version of Quicktime to play it correctly. Apparently, people have had trouble with it but the latest version seems to resolve those issues.

Re: Anyone have interesting footage of timelapse

Hey Rich,

Thanks for the link to that timelaps site dogsleap.com, very nice timelaps clip and the music fit perfect, beautiful landscape, Chili. You've done my days.

Re: Anyone have interesting footage of timelapse

I've done several and there have been discussions on the board about timelapse. Do a search on "timelapse" and "time lapse" to find the threads.

Here are some links to some of the videos and discussions:

Re: Anyone have interesting footage of timelapse

is it hard to do? I would like to try that, but Have no clue how.

Re: Anyone have interesting footage of timelapse

there are alot fo ways to do it.

with the dvx you need to turn on the "interval" setting. its in the menu someplace..i havnt done timelapse with the dvx...so i can say for sure where it is..also cause i dont have the camera in front of me. check out the manual. basicly you setup the camera to record a certain amount of time over the course of a period of time...like...take 2 seconds of video..every 10 minutes. the only problem with dong it with the dvx or any other video camera is that it leaves you with alot of extra frames. out of the 2 seconds at a time. you only really want one frame of it. so you need to throw that away. you can do that by speeding up the footage in editing software...you will have to do a little bit of math to figure out how much to speed it up by to maximize the amount of frames you use.

i highly recommned doing timelapse with digital still cameras though and an intervalometer. you can set it to record frames over any amount of time and with a large memory card you can go for weeks without ever disturbing the camera....oh and a power cable...fun stuff.

Re: Anyone have interesting footage of timelapse

disjecta - that's the final version of the water's edge? Very very nice - absolutely brilliant. Congrats. :)

Re: Anyone have interesting footage of timelapse

I agree to Rich Lee. Main advantage I felt about shooting with digital still camera is that u get a better resolution image seq. to work with so that u can do some camera operation like slow zoom pan etc. on post.

Thanks, that's the version I did for the cable broadcast.

Re: Anyone have interesting footage of timelapse

PC- yeah, the added bonus of doing timelapse with digistillcam is the resolution. even cheapo cams have at least 3-4 megapixels now.

anyway, i have been wanting to try motion control timelapse stuff latly. this way i could have the camera pushing through an enviroment. i have a friend who works close with people who rent out motion control camera equipment, and he was saying that they could probly hook me up with a little motion control rig for a weekend for free. when i have time i definitly want to take him up on it. i was also thinking it might be kinda easy to make a little moco rig up. just need some sort of motor and a dial to adgjust its speed and some sort of little dolly with wheels. might be a fun little project.

peace!

Re: Anyone have interesting footage of timelapse

Disjecta, it's been a while since I watch The Waters Edge. God that thing is beautiful. If you ever have an open house, I'm first on the guest list, I call it!

Re: Anyone have interesting footage of timelapse

Disjecta, there were twos hots in that sequence that blew me away. The initial still --> pan shot, and the black birds on the fence. Seriously, the composition o nthe fence shot was imaccualte. and the technichal beauty of of how well executed the pan shot was was very impressive. dead smooth, and in focus.

I am impressed, i am very picky. You did an amazing job.

Re: Anyone have interesting footage of timelapse

As others have said, you don't need special equipment to do timelapse work. The DVX can shoot in an 'interval' mode, but you also can simply shoot a bunch of video at regular speed, and modify the speed in your editing program.

I have a 3 megapixel digital camera, and one day a few mnonths ago I climbed up on my roof, set up a tripod with the camera aimed at the mountains, and simply clicked the shutter every 15 seconds for about twenty minutes. What I got when I imported that sequence of pictures into my editor was a very high-res timelapse video, amazing! I think the jpgs were 1900x1200 or something like that.
