Hi all,

I was one of the lucky ones that got distribution. Payday is still some time away and I'm tring to guess at sales. A couple questions for those of you that went through this:

1. How many DVD copies does Netflix usually buy for rental?

2. How much does Netflix pay for streaming?

Of course eventually I'll have the answer, but my investors are getting ansy and want to know if they will get their money back (or more).

Thanks for your help. Please don't flame me if I did something improperly in this post, it's my first one.

1. depends on demand. low budget indies with no stars typically sell a couple hundred units at approx $7 per disc.

2. it's an annual contract, no per stream royalties. for low budget with no stars, think in the thousands rather than tens of thousands.

Thanks for the quick reply. I may not be clear on #1. How many copies does Netflix buy to rent out? I know my distributor sells them wholesale for $6 but there are a number of Netflix distribution centers.

In Florida alone we have 28 distribution centers and there have been 12000 reviews, so somebody is watching...

How many of yours did they buy...?

I personally don't know any filmmakers who sold more than 1,000 in their first batch. Most were in the low hundreds, with small additional orders that followed. Netflix is one of the worst for revenue and some opt to hold off on Netflix until after they've exploited other platforms.
