GH4 Anyone filmed with a GH4 and iPhone 6s (4K) ? Interested to see if they compare

I'm not fortunate enough to have the 6s (it's a year away for me !) but I do have the GH4. I'd be interested to see what the output of the GH4 is like in 4K compared to the 6s and if you could use the iPhone as a B roll camera if you were unable to grab anything else....I would just use a clapper or Pluraleyes, so no issues there.

Why people are getting interested all suddenly for the iPhone 4k?
I mean there is 4k on high end android phones for at least 2 years and no one ever bat a eye.
Rolling shutter and stuff makes it hard to compete whit the semi-pro camera. Is it somehow different with the iPhone? Is it a revolution?

I'm just curious to see if it's any good for a locked off wide shot for an interview as a B-cam - if at a pinch I couldn't hire a 2nd camera I'm thinking this might be good (as long as lighting was constant)

Does it really matter about Android phones? The OP asked specifically about the iPhone 6s and I think it is a very valid question. I will be getting one in a few months and might be able to help then if no one has replied in the meantime. I do have a 1.33x anamorphic adapter on my 5s (not 4K) which, if the scene requires a deep depth of field, can be worked in with GH4 footage with some post production color matching.

Stone - thanks...I'm on a 6 - i can't afford to update to a 6s until my plan finishes in another year (or someone gifts me one !) and nobody I know has one yet !

I on the other hand, have an iPhone 6s, but no G4 to compare it too. I can only tell you this.
I had a client event shoot a few weeks ago. I was planning to shoot it with my FS700 on a close up
and a VG20 as the wide shot. However, when I arrived, it was crazy crowded and there wasn't enough
room for both cameras. I used gaffers tape to tape my iPhone on top of the FS700 and used it as the
wide shot. It worked just fine. Also, I have the Filmic Pro app which allows you to record 1080 at 50
and 4K at 100, so a higher bit rate than the built in camera.

Alaska - that's interesting to know - is the Filmic Pro app expensive ? Worth the investment if that's what I was going to do ? I know you can get tripod stand clamps for iPhone 6 too, so there's no issue there...and the 4K at 100 - meaning mbps or frames ?

Hmm...well, I got the app a long time ago and it gave me a free upgrade. However, I think it only costs $4.99
so probably worth it yeah. Sorry, yeah it's 1080P at 50mbps and 4k at 100mbps. That right there is worth it
for me, higher encoding bit rates. Frame rates are only up to 30fps in 4K and 120fps in 1080p and 240 in 720p.
But you can also set your frame rate in 1fps increments which might be nice for say filming a fight scene at
like 21fps for a little faster motion than usual. Lots of other nice stuff for a phone filming app, like being able
to manually set iso, exposure, white balance and shutter. Of course it's all through touch screen interface so
not ideal. Also, remember that you are limited by your iPhone's memory, I have the largest capacity one you can
get. It can work as a lock down/extra angle, especially for web stuff. Think of it as like a GoPro or something,
not a main camera and you'll find uses for it. For more info on the Filmic App see here:

Fantastic - now I have to work out how big an iPhone 6s to get - I'm not sure what the size/GB ratio would be (I usually end up with 64gb phones) - and interviews could be recorded over 15-20 minutes.

I just used an iPhone 4s - yeah, a FOUR - as a locked down close up of an event where I had a hacked GH2, a brand new Canon 70D, and a Canon T2i all running.... and damn if that little bugger cut JUST FINE!

Honestly - for locked down shots I strongly suspect the 6s is going to have me questioning why I even own some of the other cameras that I do...

Mine is the 128GB one. I make sure I dump the videos over to my computer and clean them off the iPhone as
soon as possible so I always have tons of space on the phone....because you never know when you
are going to need the space.

Just a little feedback on Android 4K phone/y footage.
I've had and LG G3 for quite a while, while it shoots reasonable 1080 footage (for a phone) when it's set to 4K
it just gets hot and shuts down.
Hopeless.
Don't get me started on battery drain.

Actually my son has a new iPhone 6, if it shoots 4K I'll give it a shot.

Get both at $5 each. I have Movie Pro and Cinamatic on the 6+ (1080p only, no 4k). Movie Pro has a great interface. I don't think there's any real difference IQ wise between them, but I don't mess with the footage too much in post - I use it for cutaways and shots of the camera recording during interviews.
