FS5: Anyone else seeing this?

Laughably poor video quality during the first few frames? I'm sure it just has to do with how it buffers/holds the group of photos in the long GOP codec but it seems to be doing it rather poorly till a moment after the camera rolls.

Not a complaint as this should never negatively affect any shots as the issue goes away quite fast, just pretty funny to see. I'v e also never seen the codec break from motion in any normal use yet.

What kind of SD card are you using? You using a Sandisk or Sony high speed UHS-I SDXC U3 Class 10 card?

I'm getting a weird thing that I see happen periodically on my timeline. Sometimes for 1 or 2 frames after a cut, or if I'm scrubbing. In this case I saw it in a render, then cheked the timeline, and it was not there. I re-rendered, and it was on the final output.

I got a few of those importing directly into FCPX, never when I use EditReady to convert... I actually like EditReady so I never bothered to do much research but I have read several places FCPX need (or needed) to update for the FS5 long GOP (Adobe may have similar issues I dont know) VERY different thing the the OP posted, I also see what he posted depending on what I am viewing the clip in... Its literally the first frame of the clip when it happens and can't think of a time it would matter

EditReady huh? I'll have to check that out. Sorry if I hijacked with an unrelated issue. I thought they both may be related to the codec of the camera. As for my issue, I actually hate having to import directly into the FCPx project, and not having access to the files to hand to someone else. I want to have the files in their own folder like with all my other cameras. Thanks for the tip.

The files DO go into their own folder in FCP X. You can locate them by showing the package contents of an event. They will be in 'Original Media' if copied over on import.

The cards are fine. U3 64gb. They have sucessfully recorded hundreds of minutes of 4k footage on this camera and a GH4. Besides it is happening only in the first few frames.

That other scrubbing stuff looks like when you play AVC codec in something like VLC. It is not on the actual file, only in scrubbing right?

I wonder if this is a FCPX issue as Chad is experiencing.

I have been using EditReady to convert to ProRes and have not seen any of these issues. A + to Edit ready is there is an option to delete unused audio tracks, and the app is freaky fast.

Try it.

This happens (the first couple of frames are damaged) to my XAVC-L files when imported directly to FCPX from the camera card. Occasionally, I get a glitch like the one shown in a final export. Changing something insignificant with the problem clip, like a tiny color correction change, forces final cut to re-render and the issue is resolved. Not ideal, but seems like a Mac/FCPX thing to me.

camera? settings? NLE?

In the last FS5 firmware Sony tweaked the XAVC-L codec so it maybe FCPX will have to be updated to properly support the slightly different flavour of XAVC-L.

I don't shoot much XAVC-L but when I have I've never seen these issues reported here in FS7 footage.

While looking at something else recently (DJI Osmo I think), I noticed the manufacturer specifically stating that use of fast SDXC, rather than lower speed (SDHC?) cards was necessary to avoid corrupted frames at the beginning of a clip.

I haven't used an FS5 and haven't explored it's media reqs etc, but I'm posting this in case it has some relevance to your question.

As the prefix indicates, the FS5. Any XAVCL 100mb 4k settings, On a PC I see it in the file in VLC, In davinci, or dropped directly into Premiere Pro.

It is not the cards as I am using tried and tested Sandisk U3 cards. And it wont even record to SDHC cards in this format.

I got that messed up frame in an export, not a scrub. Originally I saw it on an export, then found it on the timeline. I trimmed the messed up part, then pulled it back on the timeline, and did not see it, but when I exported it was still there. I think it's an FCPx issue. I think I'll try EditReady. I think ProResLT should be the same file size as the 50mbps HD files (I hope). Not sure what I should transcode the 4K 100mbps files as for an equal file size.
