Anybody try viewing HD out of the Powerbook HDMI

I was thinking if you can, maybe you could use a Powerbook to create a capture station that also worked as an HD production monitor. If FCP and the computer are converting the Firewire signal then outputting it over the HDMI you could just set up a Dell 2405 next to the powerbook and view HD while capturing to a hard drive. There are 15' and 25' firewire cables online so you could still have some mobility. Any thoughts?

I may be expecting too much, but it seems promising.

A current Powerbook is far to slow to display 1080p. You need a Dual G5 workstation for that. On my older 1.2 GHz Powerbook I cannot even play 720p.

You will have to wait till Apple comes out with Intel based Powerbooks next year. Those should be able to play 1080p without problems.

besides the clock speed and hard drive speed reliability, you'll need or at least want a full resolution 1920x1200 pixel display too. no need for another monitor when you can use the built-in one. looks like this might be possible next year when intel powerbooks get speed and resolution boosts.

A less mobile option would be to have a dual G5 with cinema display on set. I saw a photo of a really impressive set up that Walter Biscardi put together several months ago. He had his dual G5, RAID harddrives and monitor all rack mounted in a heavy duty case on wheels. It was all very compact and secure. It was the sort of set up that you could close up and roll away for transport in a truck or a supercube without worrying about damage. This station could litterally act as a sort of "video village" on set.... or "VTR" and then you could run a seperate HD monitor to video village for the director/clients ect.

Well, I can still capture from the PB but it looks like I'll have to use component to view. Bummer.
What about for editing on the road? Can the HDMI out handle 1080 for that? Seems like it should or at least 720P. I guess we'll find out soon enough.
