hello,
I will be using GH-1 for video, my wife for stills. I need to convince her that GH-1 is a good camera. As she rejects technical stuff I need to show her some very nice photos taken with GH-1.
Can anobody point a good link?

I was trying flickr, but it's not easy to find GOOD pictures shot on GH-1 comparing to other more popular and prof cameras.

Please, help ;-)

Word to the wise, separate your wife from "your" camera. Imagine both of you wanting to use it at the same time, or now two people using it just leaves more room for an "accident"

I'm married and I can/will never mix our worlds

peace

thx to all of you, there are some nice links here which I can impress my wife with.
basically, I want to convince her that the photos are taken not by a camera but by a talented photograph. ;-)

The GH1's ISO performance and dynamic range are very close to its peer from Nikon and Canon; thus, the pictures it produces should be nearly indistinguishable from those taken by entry level Nikon and Canon dSLRs. At ISO1600, for example, the pictures taken by GH1 is very usable. Thus, the limiting factor is the photographer but not whether one uses a GH1 or a Nikon D6/5000 camera. The only area in which GH1 cannot compete with the dSLRs is action photography during which you need to AF track a fast moving object and shoot in burst to capture as many in-focus shots as possible. The frame rate of the GH1 is just barely 3fps as compared to 4 fps from dSLR. Most importantly, the VF of GH1 blacks out after the 1 st shot is taken making it very difficult to shoot and track your objects at the same time. Finally the lack of a large selection of "fast" lenses is currently the most obvious limiting factor for the m4/3 system, if you need to shoot in low light and wants shallow DOF. I have both a D90 and a GH1. If I just want to take pictures, and don't mind the weight, I will take the D90. In particular, for indoors, the Nikon flash system is truly impressive. However I find the GH1 more than enough to hold its own and it is the camera that I use most often now.

There is a GH1 site on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/groups/dmc-gh1

It's not the size of the whammy bar, it's how you wiggle it.

My newbie GH-1 gallery

My newbie GH-1 gallery

Here are some stills taken on my new GH-1...I am new to still photography, so I was pretty impressed at some of the images I got out of it!

I used the kit lens and the 20mm pancake lens from Panny.

Keep in mind that I'm new to this -- so while it may not show what the GH-1 can do in really experienced hands, it will show you some great pics that can come from a relatively new user.

[Even though I am new, I knew enough to be dangerous (or stupid!). I very rarely used the IA (full auto) mode..usually shooting in Aperture priority mode. Also, I used a polarizing filter for some of the blue sky shots towards the bottom -- amazing color!]

I think the GH1 is an 'ok' still camera. There is something about the images that I don't like compared to my other dslrs - (7D & an old digital rebel). I find the GH1 looks a bit 'digital' and flat and doesn't have that warmth that other camera have. It's sharp and all but there is just something flat and cold about it.

I like it more than my 7D now for video though, but I still hate the god damn codec.

I think the Nostalgic setting adds this warmth you are talking about. Try it and tell us if u think so too.

GH1 at ISO 100 is GREAT...other ISOs, not so much.

Get a great flash unit a fong diffuser, learn it, and keep the dial at 100 and BUY the 20mm 1.7.

Also to get the dynamic range vs. higher end cameras, really master using the flash with a slower shutter speed to fill in the shadows and get more even saturation - then you'll start producing pics that can compete with the higher end cameras.

Sadly I do not thing the GH1 is a very strong natural light camera so that's what you're missing vs. the other common favorites from Canikon. Poor selection of fast lenses and poor high ISO performance hurt it.

You have to master your external flash and proper shutter speeds to make it shine.

I also have a number of GH1 images (along with G1 and GF1) on my website:

and

I also have an field report I wrote on shooting with the GH1:

Personally, I love the G-series cameras. I get excellent IQ in a nice small package.

Cheers,

Wow Simon I looked through your gh1 pics and they are gorgeous! Mine NEVER come out with that warm level of color.. the are always stale and cold. What are you doing????
