anybody know anything about "cine-lux" led panels?

i came across a guy selling one of these lights on ebay last year.
http://www.cineluxlighting.com/Cine-Lux_Lighting/Home.html

its an edge-lit, dimmable (and color-variable) led panel. i guess like a higher powered roscoe light pad. but its patented. so im guessing there are some fundamental differences...

i got outbid. so i tracked down the "company" via their facebook page. which at the time was the only google search result for cine lux. i talked to the guy who makes them and he didnt seem really motivated to do much. said they didnt keep an inventory of them and that they were basically made to order.

i really wanted to try them out. but at nearly $2k each, i wasnt really motivated to be a guinea pig.

so now their website is reasonably functional (though a bit content-thin) and it appears they are actually being sold...

my question is, does anyone here have any first hand knowledge or experience with these units? yeah, they are pricey. but it looks like they are way less spotty than the current crop of 1000+ bulbed led panels

I have a review of these panels coming at www.thecolouroflight.com, Ive been really slow at getting the posts up as paying work has been crazy and other life stuff distracting but Monday is a holiday in Canada so I'm hoping to get a bunch done. I'll do this one sooner than later for you.

Basically its a real nice soft light, really soft light with very little power. Pretty pricey as well.

I own one. It's very similar in output to a 2' 4 bank Kino Flo. Tons easier to change the color temp though. I lit some of the stuff in the promo page. What do you want to know?

i guess my biggest question is how do they compare output-wise to either say a diva 400
or any of the variety of currently available 1000+ LED panels (coollights, flolights, etc)

and second, are they actually shipping ; )

I wish I could help you with those comparisons but I don't know. I have the 2XV and a 1XV Cine-Luxes though, and a good Sekonic cine light meter that does lux or foot-candles so I could take some readings if you tell me specifically what you want.

I would be interested in knowing the fc for 3,5,10, and 25 ft. if you wouldn't mind.

Sure. I'll have to do it in my house, with light colored walls, though so the longer distances in particular will be a little off. (If there is any light at 25' :) )

These fixtures have very fast falloff.

that was my fear. seems like these are best for tighter situations or just very soft fills. and probably why at nearly $2k per unit, the masses arent rushing to get them...

my quest right now is the lightest and brightest 3pc travel kit i can come up with (price not being a huge concern). im tempted to just stick with tried and true kino divas. but im intrigued by newest 1000+ led offerings from the likes of coollights and flolights. but all the LED panels ive seen to date a pretty "spotty"

as much as i generally find most DIY efforts not really worth the money or time if not down right embarrassing (especially when trying to adapt lowes-depot stuff)
but i was in a lowes several days ago and was BLASTED by thins thing:

it seems to have the same type of led bulbs as this:
http://www.filmtools.com/komet-12-led-light.html

for about 1/40th the price.
problem is that there is (or was two days ago) only ONE lowes in the nation that had them in stock...

now im reasonably certain that there is some difference and some radically better technology in the komet thing. but at $138 im seriously considering trying that lowes thingy (once i can find one)... just for chits and giggles
