I'm having some trouble working with AVCHD with Vegas Pro 9 64-bit. My system is an i7 920 with 8GB RAM. Should I be experience a lag in my preview? I remember trying a clip on my Dual Core PC running Vegas 8 32-bit and remember preview running real time. I'm wondering if I have some processor/memory hungry program installed somewhere on my new system that is screwing things up. Also tried transcoding with Cineform and it has trouble with the AVIs.

Yes...you will get a bit of it. 720 60p can be choppy for the first 3 sec or so. Make sure you get the latest update it helped alot. I have also found that high end nvida cards work better I use the GTX250. I use the Quad Xeon Nelham...lol

tri channel is just an option for i7 processing, you can use duel channel ram if you want to too, which is actually a lot cheaper. there is a lot of back and forth whether tri channel is even worth it, i've read some benchmarking where tri channel actually increased latency and slowed down the system compared to duel channel, and other benchmarks that were opposite. i think it really depends ont he brand of the memory and motherboard.

I try to avoid editing AVCHD, but I have done it. And yes it's slow. Even on my Octocore Dell with one of Nvidia's best graphics cards.

Cineform to transcode for me, when necessary. I've been editing in Vegas 8 for a while. for easy editing work I don't transcode. More complex...cineform for me.

Have you used Cineform to transcode 720 30p? I tried the trial version and my video played back at 2X speed. Audio was fine.

I use DV grade AVI proxies using the Proxy Stream (free) script, then switch back to AVCHD before color correction/final render.
