Any word on the new Sony Viewfinder Tube for the F3?

The new Sony LCD VF extender seems to be the best solution for high quality EVF viewing. The Sony staff at NAB would not say what the shipping date was (or the price), but has anyone got updated info on this? You can see a similar VF in the FS100 brochure.

I'm using the Hoodman EX1 for monitoring at the moment as I feel it gives a better picture than the Zacuto, but the ergonomics and fragility is a PITA. It often falls away from the LCD and the weight on the hinge is an issue. But it works.

Here are some pics of the new Sony EVF finder if you haven't seen the new tube.

It was not a product. Only a prototype. Apparently a Sony engineer wanted to get feedback about this for perhaps a future product. I would buy it today if available.

That's a blow. I just shot some B-roll today of a footaball match and had to remove the Hoodman after 30 minutes, as I was convinced I was going to snap the LCD off it's mount. I ended doing the rest of the shoot through the EFV which I switched to B&W with low red peaking on. Not ideal, but you get used to it.

I like the "contraption part" of SONY prototype to secure the flimsy LCD... Just look at all that metal and rail attached to the new viewer to secure all in place... I wish they make this just for that part. All you handy/crafty people, take note and make this part on it's own. It would sell!
