Any word on DVX's price changing?

Hi,

I'm getting ready to buy DVX100a in September, I've waited a long time. I'm low on funds right now - gonna have to go into debt to get one - any word on the street if the price will drop anytime soon?

I know they already packaged the new Magic Bullet and all, but if the XL2 is gonna make them bring the price down a bit more, I'd appreciate if anyone can give me a heads up so I can save a few hundred and buy a Vegas Editor as well

Thanks

As the XL2 is already positioned about 1500 dollars higher then the DVX, it's unlikely that they'll lower the price to capture more sales. The DVX is the benchmark that the XL2 is going to try and meet...so if anything, you might see the XL2's price drop before the DVX does.

(not that I think Canon is smart enough to do that)

ok, i think i might as well buy the DVX like this week then!!! oh man, i sure hope it doesnt drop in price the next month or so!!

Of course there's going to be price changes. Sony's PD170 came out not too long ago and now there's a $300 rebate. There are many people like myself who was all set to pay for a DVX and now are waiting to check out the XL2. This month Magic Bullet comes free with the DVX. Probably you'll be getting a cash discount next. It's a great time to be in the market place for new equipment! If you want a DVX, you will definitely get a better deal than those who bought it earlier in the year, or you can pool up a bit more money for the XL2. It's a win-win situation.

heya, i did think very much about getting the xl2, the video quality is outstanding for sure. however, being that much more, and also much bulkier, i decided just to stick with the dvx for now...people seem to be doing amazing things with the dvx on this forum as it is :)

Re: Any word on DVX's price changing?

i'm in the same boat as young-h, but my dvx is actually in the mail
i decided to order one becasue i knew the xl2 wasnt for me, plus i didnt have the money. I was hoping the price might drop on the DVX but didnt wanna wait around for it to happen. i got stuff to film and things to do.

Re: Any word on DVX's price changing?

I have extensive film equipment bookmarks on my browser and in the folder for DVX100A resellers, I keep the current price as part of they reseller's name, plus I add the resellerratings.com rating to the name so a typical bookmark will look like:
B&H Photo $3500 - 8.67
Anyway, twice in the last two weeks I have had to revise DOWNWARD all the DVX prices from 15 resellers. The prices have dropped between $50-150, so someting is already going on. The only one that didn't drop was the one above, B&H.

Hi Rogue,

Depending on who you are tracking with pricing, I would be willing to bet the only ones that are reducing their prices are the gray marketers that feel that some customers will purchase gray market product at a price. They are feeling the ripple effect of the Magic Bullet. I know of one of them that has 50 Japanese AG-DVX100A in stock and has had two customers return them after purchase and discovery that he was selling gray market product. As far as Panasonic reducing the price, well I don't see that happening as my cost from Japan has not been reduced.

Hope that helps,

Jan
