any way to make separate clip?

Hello all,

I've just gotten an EX3 and I love it. It's very compact and powerful and I'm so very happy with it, but I'm running into some problems with long clips and AVID.

I'm assuming that the camera formats it's cards into Fat32 and when a clip runs over 4gb, it splits that clip into a subclip. That's cool, but that's giving me a headache. When I try to pull that long clip into AVID, I get a _ClipTransit-02 error and the whole clip is garbage and can't be played.

Is there any setting in the camera to make it cut the clip into a whole separate clip, instead of a subclip?

Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Yes, it does make them separate clips. I don't know avid, but what process are you using to get them out of the camera? Are you trying to use the MP4 files as they are? I suspect there would be no file header that way.

If you are I'd suggest you try ClipBrowser 2.6 from the Sony site. I copy the entire directory to my hard drive, then use that to export the files. In my case to MXF files, which are fairly universal.

Watch out for some NLEs handling MXF files. Adobe Premiere cuts the color resolution to 4:1:0 and colors have visible blocks/jaggies. I have to do this to extract glitch free audio however, because Premiere doesn't assemble the 4GB chunks seamlessly in the audio portion. So video from MP4 files, audio stripped from MXF. I wish Clip Browser had an 'export audio only' feature, so I could get the clean audio track without glitches. Anyway, main point is, if you use MXF, make sure the color is not degraded, as is the case with Adobe.

Hmmm. Mark, which version of Creative Suite are you using? Or maybe a settings issue.

I'm using CS4 with the Main Concept MPG4 XDCAM plug-in without any issues. Convergent Design recommends it for 4.1.1 and better. But even when I didn't use it I don't recall any jaggies if I picked the right settings.

Using Media Composer 5 (I think 4 works the same way) I used their AMA feature.

Try this website for a video tutorial: http://pro.sony.com/bbsc/video/chan...ers/video-workflow_xdcamex_avid_media_access/

CS3 in use here. Tried CS4, but my 3.5 GHz quad core doesn't have enough oomph to do better than 3-4 fps and the UI keeps freezing. Went back to CS3 which runs lickety split. Only problem is the audio glitch every 17 minutes on long takes of XDCam native files. MXF looks like interlaced footage in CS3.

I realize CS4 may have fixed a few things, but until I have a more powerful machine, it's not an option.

I'm using a 2.2Ghz overclocked to 2.8Ghz with no issues. The fact that its freezing, has an audio glitch and running that slow means there are other issues. One thing I do have is a five drive Raid0 to get the data off the drives fast enough. Are you running on one hard drive? Or its an interrupt conflict, something like that.
