will this one works with it? http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...FS_100_160_FS_100_160_FireStore.html#features

I ask because I was going to purchase one but reading how many people have had card problems I'm getting concerned and wanted to see if those cards were my only option or if I could purchase one of these if I was shooting something i just CANT risk loosing. Not saying firestores are 100% but just seem more trust worthy than those tiny tiny cards.

No firestore type of device will work with any AVCHD camera. AVCHD cameras don't even have firewire ports.

If you want an external recorder, you'd have to look to something like the NanoFlash or one of the many alternatives. However, they'll be recording to SD or compactflash memory cards anyway, so...

One reason why I would be interested in a "nanoflash like" device would be for the redundancy factor alone. I've heard too many stories (and just one time is too many in my book) of SD cards going bad in middle of a shoot. It would be nice to dual record- but it's a little out of my range to spend almost as much as the camera on a device like that.

Yeah, for that price you could just get a 170 since p2 cards are suppose to be more reliable, or a firestore for a 170 which is like less than half price of that nanoflash.

Have you looked at AJA KiPro, it can ingest thru the HDMI port, however it costs as much as the camera, but it's already in ProRES

So is there no way that an HMC can output to Firewire? There are no cable adapters that can be used with any of the outputs?

Nope.

I mean, if someone someday built an analog component->DVCPRO-HD converter, then it could use that, and use that thing's firewire output, but that isn't gonna happen, so --

nope.

KiPro. Though I'm kinda surprised to hear the SDHC hate- those cards are basically perfect...
