Hi!

I am ready to sell my SGblade dof adapter and go for a GH2. It's just sooo much easier to carry it around and work with it.

My question is before I hit the order button: Is there any reason why I should stick to my 35mm adapter + HMC150 combo istead of going for a GH2? I understand the lack of ND filters and proper audio inputs, but other than that? The GH2 image is better than my GH2 in pretty much all ways as far as I see it...

I am greatfull for all inputs!

"sensor size" maybe as the GH2´s sensor is smaller than that of your SGBlade so your options for shallow DOF will be reduced. But I had a 35mm adapter once and I´d never go back, that´s for sure.

What's the used market on 35mm adapters like these days anyway? I ask because I've had an SGpro sitting in my closet since the DSLR craze started... lovely images, and in some ways still potentially superior to what most of the DSLRs are doing (at least pre-GH2), but such a hassle to shoot with.

rolling shutter

uggg... people are still using this scapegoat?

If rolling shutter is going to be a problem. Then your film is going to be unwatchable. It's just a scare tactic used to steer people away from DSLRs, since established DP's and directors see them as a threat.

Go for the GH2. It's amazing. In fact, buy two. :)

How old are you?

We keep CCD cameras in our kit for shots which require them, not because we see DSLR's as a threat.

I ill definitly keep my hmc150 for run n gun, interviews and so on. I will go for the Gh2, is it anything particular I should know about gh2 to nikon lens adapters? There's a bunch of them on ebay, will they allow my nikons to focus on infinity? Or does only some of them do that?

Thanks for all the great info guys, you're a lifesaver!

here's another answer from a former 35mm adapter (brevis and sgblade) user. i side-by-sided my blade agaianst my gh2 and decided that overall, the simpler kit-up of a gh2 outshined the possibility of rolling shutter issues. primarilly because for the situations where i normally used the blade, i wasnt really moving the camera a great deal anyway...

+1 to that. being one of the last fairly modern CCD cams, i'll let go of my hpx170 when they pry it from my cold dead hands.

why would any DP or director see DSLRs as a threat? all a DP or director should be concerned with is the best too for the job. and sometimes that may be a DSLR and other times CERTAINLY NOT - like live sports, events or many ENG type shoots.

different tools for different uses.

rediculous statement. There's been tons of dp's that use dslr's.

I would keep your hmc150/sgblade, and get the gh2 as well. There's times I prefer the look of the do fadapter, and times I prefer the gh2, or Canon dslr's. Like David and wgzn said, it's all about having the right kit for the right job.

Great thread. I wouldn't sell my 150 for anything. It serves such a great purpose and does things that the GH2 can not and wouldnt want to. I shoot a lot of live events with tons of flashes and that alone is reason enough to not get rid of my 150... I like having a variety of different hammers for different situations, cause otherwise you are a one trick pony and limited to certain things. I also find shooting steadicam to be much easier with a better balanced camera... not very fun doing it with the light GH2. I have to weight the thing down another 3 or 4 pounds to get the inertia up and allow me to do what I want to do....

Have you atleast tried using a DSLR?

I should have my camera tomorrow, man I'm so excited!

I couldn't get hold of a black body only, so I had to get the GH2 with the lumix 14-42. So I'm thinking of selling the lens to get some money back, or is the lens worth saving? I was thinking of only using my Nikons, but maybe this lens is also good to have in the kit, or is it better to get some money out of it?
