Any Professional Photographers out there?

When I had my wedding shot, I asked upfront for the total fee including rights to all the images and also RAW originals. The studio was fine with not having to deal with any post work and gave me the normal fee that usually doesn't include originals but does include some post which I didn't care for.

Nemesis TS maybe you should just give a quick phone call to a lawyer. There seem to be many opinions,

The 1st argument is, I'll pay (read employ) you to shoot photos of my wedding. Thus, any work done in that paid time belongs to me. not the photographer.

The other camp: The photographer owns the photos and the rights.

I would give a lawyer a call and see what they say.

It still bothers me that all my friends who hired photographers, who were less money, turned over high res photos as expected.

Thats not really suprising - the old school people tend to work in the traditional manner

(prints on top)

Wheras the newbs tend to be both cheap and let their images go.

Newbs also tend to go horribly wrong when the going gets tough - your friends may have been lucky, many people are horribly let down by wedding photographers

(its a high pressure job that I respect when done properly)

The question is either he is a sharp operator holding you to ransom or a top operator who you should not have expected for this mid range price

I did a wedding last weekend for a mate - I rarely do commercial ones - even for that I had, for example, full studio lights with me in case of needing to do the group shots indoors if there was rain also an assistant, 3 bodies and a spare, on scene HD to back up to three quantum packs for the flash, you name it I had it in the van - even if he did not see it

only world war three would have stopped me delivering him shots of his special day

If your man was offering similar service I imagine he would (reasonably) be looking to make $4k+ from the day one way or another, all those toys cost bucks to keep on the road

I think he should have had it in his contract when you hired him for your wedding.

You could always upscale the photo's that you have if there not that bad with photoshop. It's best to upscale 10% at a time. I have done a 100% upscale and the 10% set was only a little better.

Photoshop tutorial upscaling

Keep in mind a upscale will not make the image better but will make it hold up as you make the image larger with no aliasing. Kind of like a good DVD player that upscales.
