any place to buy a hpx without the 16g card?

It seems all hpx's come with a 16g card. I rather take a $400 or so price cut on the hpx and put that towards a 32 or 64 card, but seems like you are forced into the 16g card. Any place where that isn't the case?

Also does that pre-record wear anything out? seems like it would put extra stress on something...

and true or false: dvx batteries work with a hpx?

Thanks!

In the USA all HPX170s come with the 16GB card and the HPX/HVX Book.

If you buy a gray-market import, it won't have either of those items.

And yes, DVX batteries work in the HPX170.

As for pre-record... I don't think it wears anything out, there's a dedicated RAM buffer in the camera for pre-rec that's designed for that purpose.

How about a $500 rebate from Panasonic? So you understand, you purchase an HPX-170 from a US authorized reseller, you get a free 16gb card and Barry's book and when you register your camera and send in your rebate form, Panasonic will give you back $500.

gray market imports are bad news cause they dont have a warranty right? who sells them anyway? I know b&h sells alot of gray photo lenses but didnt notice a gray hpx option but i dont know much about that stuff.

fine point, so the gray market would have to be about $900 cheaper to be worth it without even considering the warranty issues.

DOH! Forgot about the rebate!

So, yes: go with an authorized USA unit and you get a $420 P2 card, a $90 book/cd package, and a $500 cash rebate, and a 5-year warranty.

Or, go with a gray-market unit and get none of the above.

Who sells gray? Anyone who sells a product that's not a USA-authorized unit. Meaning, anyone who's not a Panasonic USA-authorized dealer. So guys like Beach and Buydig and Newegg and Amazon might all be selling gray market, there's millions of dealers that sell gray. Or, who knows, they might be authorized USA product too, you won't know until it's too late.

If you buy from an authorized dealer, you're assured of getting an official authorized USA product.
