Is there any other Nikon hdslr yet that has the insane iso's of d3s? No i take it? Nikon could hit the roof with the hdslr nerds if they just implemented that chip into a less-costy body...

I'm guessing that it would be comparable to the price of the D700, maybe a bit more.
They will be targeting the 5DmkII so it can't be too much more than that.

bumping. So D800 might be something to hold out for then? i'd want d3s badly but it's an insane amount of money for a 720p mjpeg 24p camera....... however if they would include some decent video options + crazy low light then it would easy be worth the money

Why are you so crazy about the low light capabilities of the D3s/D700? Others and I find it way to noisy once you go over 800ISO.

Wait, what? In video mode?

That's confusing........ 25000 iso in the zacuto shootout looked fantastic.

Why i'm crazy about it? Well... cus sculpting with natural light with supersensitive sensors is a completely new type of filmmaking, and a quite appealing one.

It's mainly the low bitrate Mjpeg codec of the D3s causing the noise in video. It amplifies the little noise that is present and makes it look pretty ugly.

When i hook it up to an LCD screen through hdmi, it looks very good up untill ISO 4000. I could still get some usable footage with ISO 12800 after passing it through a de-noise filter though. The only downside is that the D3s hdmi outputs 4:2:0, 8 bit footage, which causes some heavy banding in gradiants.
It is uncompressed though.

The sensor in the D3S is generally regarded as the best performing low light DSLR sensor ever made. I have zero complaints with my D700 and it probably is about 1.5 stops below the performance of the D3S.

I have pushed it up to ISO4000 and I have very few complaints with the pictures at that ISO rating...of course this is for stills shooting not video though.
