Any one man crews out there?

I will only take with me what I can take on the cart.
If anything more than that is required then I figure it's probably an indication that this shouldn't be a one man job.

So tripod, light stands, everything gets put on the cart and secured with bungee cords.
Just make sure the client isn't near you when you undo it all - as someone could lose an eye if you're not careful.
:)

I gotta work on my cart organizing skills :) I originally bought the golf case for airline travel and its great for that. I guess my new goal is to make it a one cart deal... we'll see how that goes...

I wouldnt get any of the smaller ones personally. Having 4 pneumatic tires is a must IMO.

edit - I should add that this is not a flawless cart by any means. The welds are shoddy and the fit and finish of the parts is crap. BUT its sturdy and folds up small and does get my gear from point A to point B. It aint no magliner, nor does it cost nearly as much as one. Harbor Freight also has some fold up carts I believe, but dont know anything about.

You can count me in... I'm a one-man crew 90% of the time, even when I'm doing a 2-camera shoot with 18-track audio...... wah!

Do you have one? I actually have two - An RR12 and a smaller one... the 4 pneumatic tires are a plus in some situations, but are VERY hard to steer, which makes the cart prone to accidental tipping. Sometimes I wish I had the RR10 instead. Often I wish I had a WIDER cart...

but with these two, I can make a nice train...

Shouldn't you just hire someone to help you out, instead of a BTS Photographer?
:)

Now THAT is a man who knows how to use a cart.
You put me to shame.

Yeah Ive got the R12 and it is a little tippy. I aired up the tires good and fill (cant remember to what) and that helped alot. I just find myself off road or going over big bumps and gravelly areas where I think the smaller hard wheels would hinder me. Never had thought about the hard wheels helping with the tip but I bet they would. So look at the r10 then too and decide which you need :)

Nice train you have going there btw. Bungeed together?

I use custom-made armoured and padded duffel-bags. I previously used SKB and Pelican cases, but they were too heavy and a pain to move around (and costly to ship.)

Indiest of the indies over here, in the last three years I have made a whopping $340.00 growing SICK of peanut butter sandwiches and Cup o Noodle soup :(

Im a one man show. First thing I did when i came back to Australia is find a crew. Some have their own companies and range in price. It depends on the job as to who and when I hire. So basically I can go one man to full crew.

Okay, I have to ask -- how does one person run camera, operate the boom mic, and handle reflector boards as actors move around in a scene? I can't see how a shoot can function on less that 3 people. Enlighten me!

Easy if all youre doing is a sit down interview etc.

Exactly.

If a shoot requires movement in the frame, a boom mic, as well as a reflector to follow the talent then I would hire more crew for that job.

But there are plenty of jobs that can be done with one person alone - it may not be the ideal scenario, but it can be done.
