Name your 3 TOP film directors

alejandro gonzalez inaritu - has the innate ability to take crazy risks in his films and somehow they always end up flawlessly.

gus van sant - the most beautiful American director in history.

darrin aronofsky - again, a risk taker, but quite possibly the most innovative director in hollywood. and not to mention a visual genius. has anyone ever seen him use a level to check a table in the background of his picture. he is absurd.

Me too Blaine.

I enjoy his work but cannot put him into the Great Directors list (Even if he seems to be the most orginal one currently) . I like him, but my jury is till deliberating as his stuff seems 'wimpy'.

-

Inaritu is great ! I am not a total fan of his mis-en-scene but I do love his stories.

Gus is 'Bleh'. His best film was Pyscho and he did that shot for shot.

Aronofsky - ??? Dude needs to make more films. What'd he do ? Pi ?

Narrowing down to only three is too difficult for me.

David Cronenberg

Brian DePalma

Roman Polanski

David Lynch

Oliver Stone

Paul Verhoven

My man, it ain't rocket science...

If you cannot commit to something as simple as this, how the hell ya ever gonna commit to even the smallest of decisions in the heat of battle (you know, "on the set")?

commitment is a difficult thing for alot of us men

... but at least he has the honesty and balls to doubt himself.

I don't understand all the Wes Anderson-mania. He's okay, but I don't see him as special.

Rushmore is one of my top 3 favorite movies. That said IMO everything else he did is either ok or garbage... just my opinion :)

I go see every new flick he does, hoping for a script with the strength of his first two but it seems he's lost completely into brightly colored characitures. Damn shame :(

My favorite directors (not best, just MY favorites): Fincher, PTA... (damn 3rd position) probably Spike Jonez

really hard to pick three but probably more than any others these are the ones I follow, eagerly awaiting each movie :)

Bottle Rocket was alright at best...but it was second banana to the other super-low-budget indies of the nineties (The Brothers McMullen, El Mariachi, etc.)

Since then...he has made one shi* film after another. I put him in the same league as Paul Thomas Anderson (which, unfortunately for him, ain't a good thing)
...gus van sant - the most beautiful American director in history...
WOW! Just...wow. I am actually speechless right now.

Satyajit Ray (just watch The World of Apu)
M. Night Shayamalan (very creative director)

(Note: Spielberg, Tarantino and Scorsese are my 3 favorites)

jesus, i'm the bizarro john hudson!

gus van sant is weak. i feel like he's grasping for straws and trying to sell tickets. i.e. psycho (remake of a classic), last days (kurt cobain), elephant (columbine). but i did like drugstore cowboy and enjoyed my own private idaho. and being from boston, i have a soft spot for good will hunting.

if i heard somebody say out loud that bottle rocket was second banana to the brothers mc f-ing mullen, i'd probably gag. i almost began to say it out loud to myself just to see what would happen but my tummy felt queasy.
