Any of these sound ok

Thanks andrea... hadn't heard of them. They have a great selection of gear.

Expensive though... the AT 4073a is £620 and that's knocked down from £720!!

£620 = 1,070.43 USD
twice as much as in USA

yes i realized they're not the cheapest on the market.
My only experience with them was when i purchased a windscreen for my mic (lightwave equalizer) which, for some reason, was the lowest price i could find in my search (including american resellers). But other stuff appears to be average-expensive

stupid question...sorry

stupid question...sorry

hy guy's...I was reading your post and I have a stupid question...

When you say " if you have phantom power available better buy a cheaper mic that the ME66" What does phantom means???? I understand it means "without a small battery" but does it means that it goes from the mic straight into my XLR connexion on my cam????

doesn't it take to much of the camera battery to use a "phantom" mic???

Oh boy, I just got a sennheiser ME66 but after reading some of your post, I don't know anymore!!

thank's for answering my very simple question

Condensor mics require power for their circuitry. That power is called Phantom Power or T Power. The two systems are different and are not compatible. Cameras and mixers may provide this power to their XLR connectors. The power for the mic runs down the same lconductors that carry the audio. Yes, the Phantom Power from a camera or mixer comes from that device's battery. Some condensor mics work on batteries. Some of those battery powered mics can also use Phantom Power.

Phantom Power can be 12 V DC, 24 V DC or 48 V DC. Some condensor mics only need 12 V DC. Others need a full 48 V DC and a good current as well. If you starve them by running them on lower voltages or with a Phanton supply that doesn't generate enough current, the sound will be distorted.

There's a lot to know about Phantom Power. I have doccumented that info in my little book, "Audio Bootcamp Field Guide" details of which are on my site.

kat... if you have a DVX then you have phantom power available. More people are confused by the word "phantom" then you'd think. You must switch on phantom power for whatever channel a mic is plugged into on the DVX... the switch is right on the side... but if the mic can use a battery, such as the K6 then you have a choice. Phantom power off and battery in... or you can even leave the battery in, turn the mic off AT THE MIC and then switch on phantom and it will still work... or if you plan to use phantom for powering from the cam or other source then you can take the battery out. The K6 can run on 12-48v phantom, but 48v is pretty much the phantom standard. When most mics say they run on phantom power they expect to see 48v. (I said MOST not all)

Beno... try Canford Audio. They are on Crowther Road between Sunderland and Washington. Try to negotiate a better price then listed for the mic you want... that may work or may not work... just be cool about it.

thank you!!! I understand now...Since I have a ME66 I guess I better use the small battery inside not the phantom on the camera, then I use the camera battery for nothing....But anyway's, it's nice to know that my DVX has this option, in case my small battery dies on me and I don't have one close by.....I can alway's switch on the phantom of the camera!!!

super

Phantom power on the camera gives the Me66 slightly better signal to noise. And the power drain on the battery is not significant. Seeing as the Me66 isnt the worlds greatest mic to start with, every little boost will help it along to a good sound capture. Use phantom.

The camera battery runs the camera.
