Greetings!

It's been a while since we heard anything about the new Panny cams... anyone have any news/rumors/insights on the AG-AC130/160 and HPX250?

You would think it wasn't going to be out for a year and a half, not a month and a half!
They didn't make the mistake in saying 2011 when they meant 2012 did they :(

Personally, going from HPX170 to AF100, I now love AVCCam and the AC160 is such fantastic cam to me. It's an improvement in almost every way over the 170 (REAL 1080p, SD cards, 21x zoom, focus/iris/zoom ringS). When these cams are out, we will be taking serious consideration for selling the 170s used and get a couple 160s.

Just curious, but since you already have P2, why not the HPX250 with it's AVC-Intra?

SD media and the corresponding AVCCAM file sizes. As many have tested in 98% of filming conditions there isn't a discernible difference between AVCCAM and recording through the HDSDI on the AF100. The only significant advantage to AVCINTRA or P2 in general is 4:2:2 and 10bit. An in most situations, I haven't felt limited at all by the AF's 4:2:0 and 8bit. I've been pulling my best keys yet off the AF's AVCCAM, better even then my Hpx170's DVCPRO HD. Course, that might be I'm learning how to do it better. But that notwithstanding, price, convienence and good enough quality short of projected film is the reason I'd take the AC160.

Cool beans. I've been more than happy with my HMC150 and have been looking forward to the AC130/160, but I'm not invested in P2, so I was curious as to why you would want to "downgrade" (which in some people's eyes it is) to AVCHD

Fortunately, we're not ThAT vested into P2. We have 3 16GB cards and 1 32GB that we picked up along with our cams when we bought them used. Other than that, no investment at all.I'd rather spend coin on SD cards and that's part of AVCCAMs draw.

Three years ago -- people would have been speculating themselves into a frenzy over these new cameras. Today, in this new larger sensor world, the near silence on these cameras says something about a new generation of third inch sensor cameras.

Regarding the two new AVCCAM models -- they were announced prior to the expansion of the AVCHD format to include 1080/60p at 28Mbps. This raises the question -- will these models include 1080/60p? If not, they're going to be three to five thousand dollar pro cameras that can't match three hundred dollar consumer cameras.

Finally, these new un-branded "super zoom" lenses scare the hell out of me. As many of you video guys have learned through the HDSLR revolution -- "super zoom" means convenience at the extreme expense of image quality. There's not a cheap prime out there that can't totally beat the most expensive "super zoom." So -- I'm exceptionally cautious about these new cameras -- and will be very patient on pulling the trigger on these -- waiting for the two hundred or so "test" videos on Vimeo before even thinking about giving one of them a test drive.

Well, these cameras are aimed at a different crowd than the large-sensor cams... perhaps not sexy, but lots of long-awaited features!

Panasonic France has posted a
video on the ac160... (it's in french btw). Available in September.

Sounds like some good deals. Can't wait to see the footage.

If they can add a couple more stops of dynamic range, it would surely be a Sony F3 killer at that price.

Watching this french video, I noticed that the AC-160 has SDI out, which makes me wonder if this is 4:2:2 10-bit ?

Clearly these cams are aimed at run & gun/event/wedding videographers. Better zoom, backup recording, and increased low light sensitivity have me excited. Can't wait to see some comparison footage to the HMC150.
