Any more thoughts on noise...

Jarred, in the past, the way I have dealt with tape was to shoot a full 60 minutes, then batch capture what I needed onto my internal/external drives, work with that footage until the project was completed, wait about 2 months after completing a project and then delete the footage and shelve the tapes - I have never kept any of my capture scratch from DV because I knew I would always have a backup if need be - and I have DV tapes that are 5+ years old with no signs of dropouts or degradation, I don't know what brand you're using.. On the flipside of the coin, yes I get this great camera called the HVX and yes I get all the wonderful benefits of p2 technology, however, I have to keep everything I shoot and back everything up - I don't delete anything because I can't afford to - it has it's ups and downs, all I'm saying is that Panasonic can't say "Hey look, no more tape costs! We're saving YOU money!" Because they're not, I have to buy new harddrives and even that I worry about because who knows if those damn things will work or not 5 years from now, tape's been a pretty solid method since it's introduction in the dinosaur era - now only if solid state would expand and decrease in price, nobody would have to worry about anything..

sorry.. i will go crawl back into my cave now..

:)

Jarred, do you have any links for current reliable LTO devices?
