I'm looking for a good rig for my 5D.

This is what I need:

15mm/19mm Support
anti-twist base
monitor
follow focus (with no drag)
handles
mattebox
shoulder pad

Any ideas?

between 1000 and 2200 usd

I know this aint enough, but the most important gear for me right now is support, base, monitor, ffs and handles.

smallhd 6dp ($1000)

I don't shoot any shoulder mount stuff but would probably look at redrock micro down the road if I started to.

I started out getting cheap components and now that I'm working a lot I've been upgrading them. I guess my advice would be just to get the good stuff upfront, get a good tripod kit rather than getting a shoulder kit and the above for cheap. There are some better options for matteboxes these days so maybe research those. The rest I've been pretty happy with (minus the ff which I don't have).

How is this one?

Cinevate makes good stuff. And that will be as good as any other. A lot of this depends on personal taste and expectations... I've owned a number of rigs from $100 to $3000+ and none of them are perfect. Even at the upper end.

As was mentioned earlier, are u sure a good tripod wodnt be as or more useful?

A good tripod is definetly useful, but if I would buy one it would be a sachtler, and I cant afford that at this time. Plus, a good tripod is cheap and easy to rent.

Where I work now its really hard to rent a good support system for dslrs, seems like the redrock ones is the only ones available, and I really hate them. What I need is basically just a cheeseplate with a rail system and quick release antispin base mounted on top of that. And offcourse a ffs and matte box. I also need some kind of cheeseplate base Behind the camera where I can mount a lcd with a cine arm, kinda like the chrosziel dslr support system (but without the 430 dollar price tag), or some other setup with lots of solutions for mounting an arm. I really like some of the red setups where u have a cheeseplate on top or on the sides of the camera.

Another key element for me is that it should look cool. By cool I mean black painted, carbon rails etc. Theres something About all the colorful rigs out there that just looks cheap and amateur.

Really? Did u actually just say that?
MAJOR CREDIBILITY FAIL!

Since you specified the anti-twist baseplate, the Redrock micro Baseplate has built in set screws to accommodate the 5D/7D/D90. This will work on any 15mm system, making your camera the industry standard 85mm height, so it will be compatible with any professional matte box.

you can do very similar rig for way under $1k with a Ginirig. (the guy from Korea) and very good quality.

just a thought.

BTW, that will get very heavy, invest in carbon rods to reduce weight.

didnt realize it included monitor and matte box as well.. so its a fair price I guess. but you can still put a Ginirig together for less.

I dont see how the redrock base is anti-twist, there is no stopper..

If you look at the second picture on this page, you'll see that there are female wholes on the left side. The base plate then comes with a little threaded post. The different wholes are because the 7D and 5D have different positioning of their set screws.

base.jpgIt's located right above the diagnostic port on the 5D
