F3: Any good feature films shot on the F3?

I haven't watched it yet (its on my to watch list but I'm waiting for some friends to come over enjoy it with) but "Safety Not Guaranteed" was shot on the F3

From what I have seen the camera provides amazing images and would look great for features, I know I'm excited to get mine soon.
 
Safety is the first one that comes to mind also. I really enjoyed it. And it was good enough for Colin Trevorrow to get a job directing Jurassic World and Star Wars IX.
 
Bad Parents was shot on F3. I shot second unit and B camera with mine and Anthony Savini was both DP and A camera.

Shotonf3.com is a site I started, it never got as big as I would have hoped. If anyone knows other feature films shot with the f3 let me know.

No offense to anyone who might have dogs in the race but "Safety not guaranteed" is probably the best looking finished / processed F3 footage I have seen in a narrative project.

There's another one called "Forbidden Ground" which is also great.

I shot a feature on the F3 two years ago. The picture made it through post, but sadly the production company broke up and it doesn't look like it'll ever get a release now :/ a shame because I thought I turned out quite well for such a low-budget affair.

I too really liked "Safety Not Guaranteed", what do you think makes it so much better than the other Sony F3 shot movies?

If I recall it was coloured at a professional facility, and presumingly that would have been by a professional who is very skilled at color correction, etc.. I think this makes the biggest difference. Like any camera, we have seen a lot of footage from it that looks great and other times does not. Shooting in slog "properly" over any built in profiles/looks can also make a big difference later on.

Another factor I suspect is that maybe a lot of the films shot with the F3 were low budget indies, which couldn't afford the luxuries of having a skilled colourist work on the post side of things.

Again, as it is with any camera, there is a certain level of skill needed in post including a bag of tricks that can go a long way of making images look extraordinary. Mark's images above is proof of that - he is an extraordinary individual who does a lot of his own post work and to a large extent has perfected it over the years.

Maybe if you ask nicely he will reveal some of his tricks to you. :)

Yes it would appear so.

The F3 came out 2 weeks before they started shooting, neither the paid or free internal slog was out until later. They would had to have shot with the cinegammas which at the time were the highest capable dynamic range curves of about 12 stops. S-Log1 added between 1 and 1.5 stops depending who you ask or who did the test. The article in the 3rd link below suggests they recorded internally.

According to one article "post was done at Alpha Cine Labs in Seattle, where Kasulke has a longstanding relationship. Marc Brown handled the digital intermediate over five days using a Quantel Pablo system."

The filmmakers favoured the F3 because of the low light capabilities and the PL mount which allowed them to use some old 70's Panavision lenses.

This thread has made me more excited for my F3 to come in while also making me realize I need to get better at grading....anyone need a colorist apprentice in Florida haha
