any GH1-shot films going to theatrical or TV release?

Just wondering if any films or documentaries shot with the GH1 have been released yet in theaters or even on TV? Or is it too soon to be asking this question?

I've heard of the GH1 film Rejouer, will it be screening at any festivals?

My reason for asking is that I would love to see how GH1 1080p or 720p footage looks like on the big screen.

Thanks in advance,

- Nick

Hey Nick! Where do you live? Once I finish my GH1 project this January I'm going to be submitting it to festivals all over the place, I can try to get it placed somewhere near you!

Hi and thanks for replying.

I live in Boston. It would be great to see your film screened at Kendall Square Cinema or Coolidge Corner. They screen a lot of indie films at those two cinemas.

I suppose you must have already been testing out your footage on the big screen. What are your impressions? I'm asking because I have a Sony Bravia 46" Z series. My footage looks great on my Apple cinema screen, but not nearly as nice when previewed straight out of the GH1 connected by HDMI cable to my Sony Z HDTV. I must be doing something wrong.

But I'd be very interested to know your impressions of the GH1 viewed on a large screen since your going for theatrical distribution.

Thanks very much in advance,

- Nick

Hey Nick, now THAT is a coincidence! I live in Brookline and I am absolutely going to try and get the film screened at the Coolidge Corner theater, Kendall Sq., and maybe the Brattle in Harvard Sq.

So far I have only tested footage out on my 73" DLP - once I'm done with some of the principal photography, I'm going to take some to the Coolidge as they do work out deals to let indie filmmakers come in at off hours to look at dailies.

For what it's worth, most users have said that video from the HDMI out on the GH1 does not look as good as when you run the footage out of something else. For example, I (and I think they did this on Rejouer) connect an SD card reader to my PS3 to watch the files out of the GH1 and it looks excellent on my 73" DLP - I have no complaints whatsoever, I've been outright stunned by some of the test footage I've done. There are some standalone devices that can read AVCHD files and output them via HDMI (pretty cheap devices too, like $100) and it seems that the files look better this way than straight out of the camera.

If you have a way of trying this, I'd definitely give it a go. But as it stands, I'm very happy with the footage on my big screen, but of course, the real test will be when I can look at dailies in a real theater environment. It's coming soon, we're in final pre-production now with principal photography starting around Jan 20th or so - I'll keep the forum updated once we start, and heck, if you ever want to stop by when we're shooting, you're more than welcome! Heck, I'll let you know a couple of dates when we'll be looking at dailies at the Coolidge and I'll be happy to invite you to come for one of them.

At the moment, I'm going to be shooting with Canon and Zeiss Glass, and we're going to do it with the Panasonic anamorphic adapter.

I'm a GH1 owner who live around the Boston area. I've helped organize an Independent Film Festival in the past and in case it were to ever happen again, you can probably send the film to us.

Wow Fantastic! Please let me know. And if you ever need help, I'd be happy to lend a hand.

Please let me know any time there's a screening. Great that you live in the area. I live in Kenmore Square. Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to tyr with the Sd card now.

Thanks again,

- Nick

Thanks again for the tip. Just tried previewing my GH1 footage through the SD card and it made all the difference. Definitely better than going straight out from the camera. Thanks!

Thanks Paulo - I will absolutely send you a screener copy once it's complete. Thank you so much - this forum is fantastic.

Glad I can help and thank you for your offer - I will keep you in the loop! Just curious, what sort of background do you have with photography and videography?

Thanks!

Hey guys, I'm a BU student working on my final project film with my GH1. I live in Allston. I'm also interested in submitting my film to film festivals around Boston once its done in January. Were going to having a little premiere around mid December too if anyone is interested.

I play my AVCHD files directly from the card into the Panasonic 50" plasma and they look stunning.

There are some standalone devices that can read AVCHD files and output them via HDMI (pretty cheap devices too, like $100) and it seems that the files look better this way than straight out of the camera.

Can you point us to some of this devices?
Thank you.
