I have a 9inch Ikan monitor I like. Mostly because it also has SDI inputs.
The problem is...the lesser price monitors, including my Ikan have a lot of fall-off if you are not looking directly at them. If you get just a little off center, colors and contrast vary dramatically so...you can't trust them to give you true color. Mostly just a generic idea of what your shot is framed like.

It helps you get focus a little better but...I still don't trust it to get true focus.

Sadly, this is why you need to spend more money...which is what we've all heard and wished we didn't have to believe.

Sure, get the lesser price brands...but do it with your eyes wide open and don't be disappointed when it's not "prefect".

Even my 9 inch Ikan cost about a thousand dollars...but that's mostly because of the SDI inputs. Ikan monitors are worth your consideration and may meet your price point.

Full disclosure...I'm buying an OLED SmallHD monitor next month.

Frankly, to get perfect, you're going to have to go to $1,300 to $1,500, minimum before you reach a good monitor for color and focus.

SmallHD makes good monitors...and even their "lesser" priced ones are pretty good...considering.

Worth looking at but the biggest size they make is a 7 inch. Still...decent quality for your money that I don't think you'll get buying Lilliput.
